Jimmy began his career as a Youth Director at Highland Baptist Church in Waco, TX in 1970. He has also served as the Inner City Director of the First United Methodist Church in Ft. Worth, TX, an Associate Pastor for Youth & College at West Memorial Baptist Church of Houston, TX, the Family Life Specialists at Family Counseling and Children’s Services in Waco, TX, and the Response Program Director at Tejas Council of Camp Fire in Waco, TX. In 1992, Jimmy founded Mission Waco as Cross Culture Experiences, Inc., and he continues to serve as its Executive Director as well as the pastor of Church Under the Bridge in Waco, TX. Jimmy is currently an Adjunct professor at Baylor University and George W. Truett Seminary.
Very active in community, Jimmy currently serves on the Advisory board for the Christian Community Development Association, Junior League of Waco Community, McLennan Community College Continuing Education, Baylor University Family Ministry and Department of Family/Consumer Sciences as well as on the Board of Directors for HOT Homeless Services, Parents as Teachers- Early Childhood Education Board, Cross Culture Experiences, Inc. Jimmy also serves as the President of the Texas Christian Community Development Network.
Being honored several times, Jimmy has been honored by the Waco Conference of Christians and Jews as Family of the Year Award in 1995, National Association of Social Workers, Waco Unit as Citizen of the Year in 2000, Baylor University Alumni with the Abner V.MccCall Humanitarian Award in 2000, Second Baptist Church of Little Rock Arkansas with the Brook Hays Christian Citizenship Award in 2006, Baptist Standard and Baylor University/Truett Seminary with the George W. Truett Ministry Award for Ministerial Excellence in 2006. Jimmy is married to Janet C. Dorrell and has four children.
