Dr. Patricia O'Callaghan Reger

Dr. Reger is a physical therapist whose area of research involves exercise-induced cardioprotection in a model of spontaneous hypertension. Other interests include health of the mind, body and spirit in the management of childhood obesity. Teaching includes Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Research Methods, Exercise in Special Health Populations, Therapeutic Modalities and Dance Anatomy and Kinesiology. Dr. Reger has three children, R.J., Emily, and Thomas and a miniature daschund, Tootsie. The Regers are members of Corpus Christi Church in Upper Gwynedd, PA.

Mr. Franek is currently completing his doctoral education at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, Provo, UT. His area of research involves transfer of knowledge within the clinical education setting. He is a Certified Athletic Trainer with 12 years of practical experience in the following settings: semi-professional, collegiate, high school and outpatient physical therapy clinic. Mr. Franek primarily teaches courses within the Athletic Training Education Program including Orthopedic Evaluation, Therapeutic Exercise, General Medical Aspects, a variety of Athletic Training clinical skills courses and clinical practicum courses. Mr. Franek lives in Reading, PA, with his wife Michelle and two sons Evan and Jakob.

Dr. Greenwood is a clinical Exercise Physiologist with over 20 years of experience in the field of exercise science. She has advanced training and teaching experience in Exercise Testing, Exercise Prescription and Business Administration for Exercise and Sport. Dr. Greenwood teaches all of the exercise science laboratory courses as well as Health Promotion, Administration for Exercise Science and Metabolic Interactions. Dr. Greenwood's research interests include obesity, low carbohydrate diets and body image. Dr. Greenwood is an active volunteer in the Adopt A Boxer Rescue program.

Mr. Horton is a certified athletic trainer with over 8 years of clinical experience at the professional, Olympic, university and high school levels. He directs the Life Fitness Program and serves as the Clinical Coordinator for the ATEP overseeing students as they participate in a variety of practicum experiences. His teaching includes the Athletic Training Education Program practicum courses, Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Lower Extremity Evaluation, Pharmacology, and some courses outside of the ATEP such as Life Fitness Through Endurance. Mr. Horton is a graduate of Eastern (1999) where met his wife Christine; they now reside in Sewell, NJ with their daughters, Gracie, Paige and Aubrey.

Dr. Mercier specializes in human physiology and pathophysiology, particularly as they relate to physical fitness, with a concentration on cardiovascular disease. Research interests include vascular responses to physiological stress (e.g., heat and humidity) and pathophysiological states (stroke and myocardial infarction). She has 15 years experience in emergency and critical care nursing, and practices part-time as a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner. Her current project is a study of the university’s Life Fitness courses and their effects on attitudes and health behaviors of college students. She loves running, tennis, volleyball, and arguing politics with friends.

Mr. Post has been the Director of Athletic Training Services, Head Athletic Trainer and NCAA Compliance Coordinator for Eastern University since being hired full-time in August 1998. He was the athletic trainer for the Elmira Pioneers, the single-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox in the NY-Penn League and a staff athletic trainer for Pat Croce's Sports Physical Therapists (now NovaCare Outpatient Rehabilitation) working with local high schools, colleges and universities, Olympic athletes and several Philadelphia professional sports teams, including the Philadelphia Kixx and the now-defunct Philadelphia Power. John played an integral part in the development of an athletic training curriculum at Eastern University, including the professional development of dozens of students seeking a career in sports medicine as an athletic trainer. His teaching includes ATEP practicum courses and First Aid. Other interests include music, sports, and spending quality time with family and friends. John and his wife Traci have two daughters, Chelsea and Carlee; they attend Fairview Village Church of the Nazarene in Fairview Village, PA.

Mrs. Schumacher joined the Biokinetics Department in June of 2005 as the administrative assistant and was an integral contributor to the processes leading up to the accreditation of the Athletic Training Education Program. She enjoys working with such dynamic faculty members and students and looks forward to the continuing growth and development of the Biokinetics Department. She has her BA in Music from Plattsburgh State University, her MA in Clinical and Community Counseling from Eastern and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Arts in Marriage & Family Therapy at Eastern. She lives with her husband David and they have three daughters, Page (married to Jacob Durflinger, USMC), Olivia, and Samantha, and two white golden retrievers, Lucy and Annabelle. The Schumacher’s are members of St. John Lutheran Church in Phoenixville, PA.
