  • Earthkeepers

Earthkeepers is a group of Eastern University students devoted to promoting proper stewardship of God's creation through education and service.  They believe they are called to answer and fulfill a mandate handed down to us by God: to live as loving and responsible stewards of the earth and to work toward the health and harmony of creation.  This student-run group is focused on promoting service opportunities on Eastern’s campus.  Some of these service opportunities include campus work days, restoration of natural areas on campus, improving walking trails, and building and caring for the new garden being built on campus in spring 2012.  Members of Earthkeepers, in partnership with SIFE, have secured donations for the majority of supplies need to build the raised-bed garden that is to be located near the greenhouse on Eastern’s St. Davids campus.  In coming semesters, students will have the opportunity to work in the garden, benefit from fresh produce grown on campus, and perhaps be supported by garden internships.

Earthkeepers have a strong partnership with the Natural Areas Committee and Interns on campus and frequently work with them for campus work days.  Additionally, members of Earthkeepers have attended Renewal Summits and other Christian-minded environmental meetings.  Aside from their work on campus, Earthkeepers also plan at least one camping trip a year for the members of the group.  Other projects that Earthkeepers have worked with include building bird and bat houses and putting them on campus, bringing guest speakers to campus, organizing prayer events, educating other students about environmental concerns, and participating in Homecoming events.  Currently, they are focusing on the garden construction and examining the feasibility for adding an apiary to Eastern’s St. Davids campus.   Earthkeepers
