For the business student who expects to be employed in a chemistry-related field (such as pharmaceuticals, foods, consumer products, plastics or petroleum), it would be a distinct advantage to have a foundational background in chemistry to assist in the technical understanding of a company's products and operations. In addition, a chemistry student who expects to engage in work other than research and development would benefit from training in management, marketing, and finance. The B.A. in Chemistry-Business meets these combined needs. This unique and innovative degree is particularly appropriate for employment in smaller-sized chemical companies where employees often have varied responsibilities. Considering the rich industrial resources of the Philadelphia area, there is a niche market for this degree and job opportunities abound.
Eastern's mission is encapsulated in the motto "the whole Gospel for the whole world". The training of Christians at the interface of the business and chemistry fields and their placement in strategic positions in the vast chemical industry will provide greater opportunity for dialogue about the Gospel and decision-making on justice issues. This degree fits well with the college's work to equip Christians to serve in all strata of society and be used as hands of God to bring about his will.
