What We Offer
The majors in the Eastern University Chemistry Department involve a rigorous study of molecular processes through the lens of the Christian faith. Deeply committed faculty provide strong mentoring relationships to support and challenge. Academic Excellence demonstrated by
Students work side by side with faculty to engage in original research. Projects include the cloning and analysis of virulence-associated proteins of a bacterial pathogen, organic synthesis of cyclopropyl derivatives of liquid crystal structures for electronic devices, synthesis of polymer-gold nanocomposites for diagnostic imaging and possible treatment of cancer, and theoretical modeling of strained molecules.
Students gain extensive hands-on experience with advanced instruments such as 300 MHz FT-NMR, FT-IR, GC-MS, AAS, Diode-array UV-Vis, HPLC, FPLC, DSC, SEM, and PCR.
Students learn to think critically and communicate clearly.
