What We Offer
The Language Department offers a rigorous, comprehensive program of literature, culture and language courses in a Christian context. After developing their reading and communication skills, Spanish majors study abroad for one or two semesters in either Spain or Latin America. Most students double major in the following areas: The Department offers a minor in French and Spanish with the possibility of study abroad. Beginning and intermediate courses in German, Japanese and Italian are also offered.
Eastern’s proximity to Philadelphia offers contact with the Hispanic and Francophone communities for cultural activities, church and internships. Students participate in yearly mission trips to Bolivia, the Dominican Republic and Haiti where they use their language skills to serve in community projects.
Eastern’s Language Faculty represent four continents and hold degrees from top universities in the U.S., Argentina, France and Japan. Their teaching style and Christian worldview engages students in the classroom and encourages them to pursue a life-long commitment to embrace and serve people from other cultures.
