Mathematics

"I plan to be a high school mathematics teacher. The math department here has really made math fun and has been a witness to how amazing God is."
[ Julie Tate Ulrich, 2007 ]

What We Offer

Eastern offers the B.A. in Mathematics and gives you the option of combining the mathematics major with a second major or minor in another of the liberal arts or sciences. Many students combine the mathematics major with secondary education to prepare to be a mathematics teacher.

We are committed to understanding mathematics in the context of our Christian faith - that is, as the language spoken by the physical universe and as included in the very Wisdom of God.

Our faculty has expertise in different areas of mathematics and mathematics education and is committed to teaching and mentoring students.

We provide opportunities for

  • personal interaction with faculty in small classes
  • fellowship among mathematics students and faculty
  • participation in ‘The Abelian Group’ – mathematics tutoring provided by mathematics majors for all Eastern students
  • use of computer facilities and software, including a mathematics department server running Linux
