
IONAL BIOGRAPHYProfessor Mary Boylston joined the Eastern University Department of Nursing while also working as a critical care nurse. Throughout her career, Dr. Boylston has clinical experience in critical care nursing, open heart postoperative surgery care, post anesthesia care, community health nursing, and hospice. She has served as the Department of Nursing Chair twice while opting to return full time to the classroom. She has a nurse manager certificate from Sigma Theta Tau International, End of Life Nurse Educator (ELNEC) “Train the trainer” certificate and spearheaded the infusion of end of life content in the RN to BSN program. Dr. Boylston is a former Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), and currently holds Board Certification as an Advanced Practice Holistic Nurse.
While at Eastern University, Dr. Boylston has also been a member of a number of faculty and administrative committees, started the Korean Nurse Program, spearheaded the BSN2 second degree nursing program, initiated the pre-licensure traditional BSN program, and started the RN Refresher Program.
Dr. Boylston is the Nursing Informatics Coordinator, Department Faculty Student Development Committee Chair, and has created N 301: Nursing informatics and N 402: Leadership in Nursing Practice. She is the course coordinator for Nursing informatics and N 402: Leadership in Nursing Practice, N 215 Scholarly Writing in Nursing, and N 302: Theoretical Foundations in Nursing. She has been the chair of a number of institutional committees, coached the varsity women’s tennis team, and was the CCGPS Faculty Development Coordinator. Dr. Boylston currently is the advisor for the Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP) (Eastern University chapter), Counselor for Sigma Theta Tau: Delta Tau Chapter at Large, International Nursing Honor Society, and Editor of Nursing Connections magazine.
Dr. Boylston is a Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) site visitor who reviews national BSN programs for quality and adherence to national standards and norms. She has also worked as a Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) site visitor and has assessed proposed nursing programs with Department of Education (DOE) administration for quality and sustainability.
Dr. Boylston has published two books and reviewed proposed textbook content in leadership and nursing informatics for publishing companies. She has also has written a number of websites and book chapters. In addition to her clinical expertise and university activities, her focus of research has been adult student satisfaction and nursing care of the marginalized and homeless. She has presented her research on a local and national level.
