Mission

Social Work ClassThe mission of the Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.) Program (Social Work major) is to educate general social work practitioners who are knowledgeable, skilled and compassionate agents of God’s mercy and justice in meeting common human needs, with particular attention to people who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty.

Goals

The goals of the B.S.W. Program (Social Work major) are:

  • To prepare graduates for beginning professional social work practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities, from the perspective of a Christian understanding of humanity, society, and the world.
  • To provide graduates with the educational background needed for graduate study in social work and to be considered for advanced standing.

Graduates of the B.S.W. Program (Social Work major) will . . .

    1. identify as professional social workers and conduct themselves accordingly;
    2. apply social work ethical principles to guide professional practice;
    3. apply critical thinking and communication skills to formulate and communicate professional judgments;
    4. engage human diversity and difference in social work practice;
    5. advance human rights and social and economic justice;
    6. engage in research-informed practice and practice-informed research;
    7. apply knowledge of human development and action in the social environment;
    8. engage in policy practice to advance social and economic well-being and to deliver effective social work services;
    9. respond to contexts that shape social work practice; and
    10. practice social work with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.
