Loeb School of Education

Contact: Dr. Bill Yerger (wyerger@eastern.edu)

Program Description

The program is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a BA in Elementary Education with or without certification.  They may complete a BA with elementary teaching certification within 4 years or combine BA and M. Ed. in Multicultural Education with teaching certification within 5 years. This major may also be combined with special education certification, early childhood education certification, or English as a Second Language certification.

Education majors may pursue a minor in any subject area by fulfilling appropriate departmental requirements for a minor although it is not required.

Elementary education majors are required to complete 15 or more credits in a certifiable academic area as defined by the State of Pennsylvania.  The purpose of the Area of Concentration is to help elementary education students to pass the Middle School PRAXIS test in an area in which they can be certified.  The areas of concentration include biology, chemistry, environmental education, general science, social studies, math, English, Spanish, French, and reading.  Consult the catalog for requirements in each area concentration.
