EASTERN UNIVERSITY and LAIDLAW College (New Zealand) Announce Partnership

Laidlaw Partnership

During the week of March 15, 2010, Laidlaw College (Auckland, New Zealand) hosted visitors Harry Gutelius (Associate Dean, Loeb School of Education) and Stephanie MacTavish (Vice President for East Asian Relations) from Eastern University. The purpose of the visit was to finalize an agreement for a student exchange program allowing students from both institutions to experience a semester abroad. This will allow for a great cross-cultural experience for the students as well as facilitating opportunities for further interactions between faculty and staff of Eastern University and Laidlaw College. Discussions were also held about possibilities for exchanges in masters level programs, and these discussions will be ongoing.  Read More.

Guidelines for Issuing Certificates for Free Praxis Re-test
The Pennsylvania Department of Education has worked with Educational Testing Service to offer a program to assist students and individuals who are attempting to pass their certification and licensure tests. The program will allow the School of Education or certifying district to provide a certificate for a free re-test to an individual who has failed a Praxis
test.

The certificate will cover the cost of the test fee as well as the test registration fee, if necessary. (A policy change was implemented by ETS to relieve some of the financial burden to testing candidates. This change requires candidates to pay the test registration fee only once in a testing year.)

In order for an individual to be eligible for a certificate to retest they must meet all of the following criteria:
* Have a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better
* Missed the state passing score by three points or less
* Failed the test no more than two times

The re-test option will provide an additional resource for the large number
of individuals who need some assistance in passing the Praxis tests.
