National Student Nurses Association

The Eastern University SNAP chapter actively recruits all pre-licensure students to participate in service activities, fund raisers, student development, NCLEX RN preparation, and brown bag lunches with nurse experts.

Led by students, activities are structured to socialize the future nurses of the Tri-state region. Opportunities for networking are abundant as expert nursing professionals interact with the chapter.

Activities in 2008 included fund raising to support the pinning and dedication ceremony, Relay for Cancer, and participation in a health fair serving the Haitian American community.

Brown bag lunches are offered monthly as faculty and nurse specialists share their professional journeys with participants. Dr. Mary Anne Peters, the chair of Eastern's Department of Nursing spoke eloquently at a session on how she developed her passion for compassion. Similarly, Rose O'Rourke, assistant Skills Lab instructor shared her research and advocacy for the homeless and indigent.

Hearts for Troops

SNAP adopted a Marine troop stationed in Afghanistan, and in February 2010, gift baskets were sent out in support of these brave soldiers as a gesture of gratitude and kindess for their efforts overseas.  The "Hearts for Troops" drive was a great success!  Many items were donated.  Some items included in the baskets for the troop were candy, lip balm, magazines, and cards of encouragement.

Walk for Leukemia and Lymphoma Awareness

On Friday, September 24, 2010, students in the BSN2 Nursing Program, along with Corinne Latini, Skills Lab Coordinator, participated in the "Walk for Leukemia and Lymphoma Awareness" in Wilmington, DE.  The students raised money through a change jar and cupcake sale to donate to the organization.  Corinne walked in memory of her mother, Doris Nygren.
