Practicum

Each student is required to complete a continuing practicum/internship with a local community arts organization. A minimum of ten hours per week is expected to fulfill this requirement. Whenever possible, the students are paid for this internship if an acceptable part-time employment is arranged.

Arts Internships are chosen in the artistic specialty of the student in consultation with the advisor. Upon completion of an introductory seminar, students are assigned to a local artist master and his/her community/church arts organization, where the student will intern for the length of his or her program. In some rare cases when a student would like to experience the work of different art forms, internships may be assigned for a year.

It is our philosophy that building community relationships and a spirit of volunteerism is vital for effective community development. Therefore, we will continue to encourage a year internship with a single local arts-based community organization.
