Community Development

Preparing professionals to holistically revitalize urban communities

Concentration Purpose

  1. Develop a global urban mindset 
  2. Create a commitment to justice and compassion reflective of the Kingdom of God
  3. Understand urban theory and models of urban transformation
  4. Develop and implement research and community assessment skills  
  5. Have relevant field experiences 
  6. Develop leadership & management skills and opportunities
  7. Be prepared in both the theory and practice of community development
  8. Empower students with the broadest base of a holistic context

Accommodating Class Format

  • Students complete the program in 2 or 3 years of active study
  • To accommodate working students, courses are offered in a blended online residency format, which allows students to participate in the program from around the world through online learning and a one week residency each semester.  During this residency, you must travel to our Philadelphia campus to participate in on-ground classes for the entire week.
  • Residencies are MANDATORY

Experience Your Education

As a requirement for graduation, all students in the community development concentration must complete:
  • A 2 credit practicum in a community development organization
  • A Graduate thesis project
