As Pre-Dental students, you must start planning early by setting out the right course of action geared toward your career goals. As with medical schools, dental schools do not require that you choose a specific college major. Therefore, no matter which major you choose, you need to take the following courses (preferably by the end of the junior year) to prepare yourself for admission: English (composition and literature): 1 year (one semester of each), Chemistry (including labs; majors Chemistry, General and Organic): 2 years, Physics (including labs): 1 year; note one semester of Calculus is a prerequisite, Biology (including labs): 1 year

Explore the Pre-Physician Assistant Track

Physician assistants (PAs) are licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision.  They conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order tests and interpret results, advise in preventative medicine, assist in surgery and write prescriptions (in most states).  This is one of the fastest growing careers in the health professions.  There are 14 PA programs listed in Pennsylvania alone!  It was estimated that there were about 46,000 PAs in clinical practice at the start of 2003.   PAs are trained mostly in primary care, but also can work in specialty fields like cardiovascular surgery, orthopedics and emergency medicine.  The structure of PA programs is similar to that of medical schools, but PA programs are much shorter in length.  Most accredited programs (133 in the US) take 25-27 months to complete.  There is high job satisfaction among the majority of practicing PAs and over 69% of those surveyed would recommend the profession to others.There is no Pre-Med or Pre-PA major at Eastern University.  You can have any major as long as you take the required courses for your desired graduate program (although most students usually major in science).  Each Physician Assistant (PA) program you apply to can have slightly different requirements, so be sure to investigate those schools you are most interested in to satisfy their prerequisites

Students seeking a middle level certification to teach in any 4-8 grades will choose from concentrations that include: 1) English/Reading, 2) Social Studies, 3) Mathematics, and 4) Science. The concentration that the student chooses entitles the graduating student to teach that subject in any of the 4 through 8 grades and in the other non-concentration (focus) areas, grades 4 through 6. Students may choose between nine different tracking options including dual concentrations with either Mathematics or Science as the other concentration.

The mission of the School Counseling program is to train masters level graduates who 1) function as advocates for their students, 2) promote the welfare of the entire learning community, 3) use evidenced-based practices, 4) are academically prepared to seek Pennsylvania certification as elementary and secondary school counselors, and 5) are educationally prepared for the Pennsylvania Licensed Professional Counselor (meets the eight educational content areas) and Behavior Specialist License.

Certification in Reading Supervisor (K-12)

The Supervisor Certification programs are offered only at the graduate level and candidates must have completed five years of satisfactory professional experience as certified teachers in the supervisory certification areas prior to application. The successful completion of this program will prepare students to supervise certification areas in the elementary education (K-6) or secondary education (7-12) level.  This program can be combined with M.Ed. in Multicultural Education. Certification in School Nurse (K-12)

This professional education program prepares the candidate as an Education Specialist 1 (K-12). Applicants must hold a current PA licensure as a registered nurse and a BSN degree. This program can be combined with a study in the M.Ed. in School Health Services program.

M.Ed.in Special Education

The M.Ed. in Special Education seeks to provide our graduates with the skills and knowledge necessary to teach and support students with special needs. We also want to provide our graduates with the specialized leadership skills necessary to pursue administrative positions in programs servicing special needs students and their families for grades Pre-K-8, and 7-12.

BSN Two2 Second Degree Nursing Program

The second degree nursing program, BSN Two2 Second Degree Nursing Program prepares the student for a career as a baccalaureate-prepared nursing professional. Equipped with a previous degree and the pre requisites, the student enters the program as a junior BSN student.

BS/MEd in Multicultural Education

This 30-credit program is designed for Eastern undergraduate students who are enrolled in a teaching certification BA/BS program and wish to complete student teaching as graduate students while completing the M.Ed. in Multicultural Education program in their fifth year, or who are enrolled in a non-certification BA/BS program and wish to complete the M.Ed. in Multicultural Education program with ESL concentration in their fifth year.

Special Education Supervisor (N-12) Certification

The successful completion the Special Education Supervisor program will prepare students to supervise special education services in the elementary education (N-6) or secondary education (7-12) level. 

MEd in Reading

The Online/Blended Online Master of Education in Reading Program prepares certified teachers to become highly qualified literacy professionals while obtaining certification as a k-12 reading specialist. MA in Organizational Leadership

The Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership program is offered in the U.S. in a blended online weekend residency format (part online, part on-ground).  Overseas, the program is offered in the blended online annual residency format in Africa and in Latin America.

BS in Business Administration

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program, offered by Eastern University’s School of Management Studies, can be taken online or in a blended online format (part on-ground, part online).   This is a virtual campus allowing scheduling flexibility for the highly motivated adult learner.  Online courses are scheduled in accelerated, six-week terms that start twice each year in October and April.
