Department of Nursing: Technology & Nursing
In today’s rapidly evolving global environment, the ability to apply knowledge and skills from information systems and computer technology is essential. Eastern's BSN program examines the technological issues in nursing practice, education, and research through the Healthcare Informatics course.
The Healthcare Informatics course examines technology and its impact upon nursing and the healthcare industry. Students explore how computers are utilized in education, practice, administration, and research. As part of the course, students learn about:
- word processing
- electronic mail
- computerized literature searches
- Internet research
- electronic presentation software
Students have the option to purchase a laptop computer at the beginning of the RN to BSN to utilize throughout the curriculum.
In addition, all the nursing programs at Eastern are technologically enhanced to provide BSN students opportunities to hone their computer skills throughout the nursing curriculum. To facilitate the process, several nursing courses are offered online through the Blackboard Learning System (student password required). This system provides the BSN student access to syllabi, course documents, forms, and group discussions between students and faculty.
