SPRING MUSIC FESTIVAL APRIL 25-26
The Music Department presents its SPRING MUSIC FESTIVAL this FRIDAY, April 25, and Sat., April 26. Both concerts are at 8PM in McInnis Auditorium, St. Davids. Friday’s concert features Orchestra, the Flute Ensemble, Angels of Harmony. Combined ensembles (University Choir, Miriam’s Children, Turning Point and the Orchestra) will perform Faure’s “Requiem.” Saturday’s concert features Eastern Winds, Miriam’s Children, Chamber Ensembles, Eastern Strings, and Jazz Band.
Tickets are $5 with Eastern ID, $8 for seniors and children 12 and under, and $10 general admission. Buy tickets at the Box Office or call 610.225.5545.
TRI COUNTY CONCERT APRIL 27
Come hear classical pianist Charlie Albright in concert this Sun., April 27 at 2:30PM in McInnis Auditorium, St. Davids. This 18-year-old virtuoso has been playing the piano since the age of 3-½. He won 1st place in the 2006 Eastman International Piano Competition. In 2007 he was the youngest competitor (and won) in the Hilton Head International Piano Competition. MUSIC CONCERT AT PALMER SEMINARY MAY 2
Don't miss the concert presented by the Eastern University music department on Friday, May 2 at Palmer Seminary chapel, Wynnewood, PA. It features the Eastern University Orchestra under the direction of David Bryant and the Eastern University Choir under the direction of Richard Frost. The program will include individual selections and the combined orchestra and choir in Gabriel Faure's Requiem. The Requiem has been described as "emotionally intimate, tender and loving." Concert time is 8PM and the concert is free of charge.
PERFORMING ARTS LIVING ROOM MAY 3-4
Eastern University Theatre presents 24:7, the 2008 Performing Arts Living Room on May 3 at 8PM and May 4 at 3PM in McInnis Auditorium on the St. Davids campus. 24:7 features 2 Performances of 4 World Premieres plus three other previously produced plays for a total of 7 brief plays on subjects ranging from marriage, family and friendship to adultery, murder and xenophobia, each tightly packed into ten minutes of drama, comedy and absurdity. All seven plays are directed by recent Eastern grads Liz Carlson, Jacqueline Grace Nicklas and Alycia Scarito Gargano. The four world-premiere plays were written by Eastern students Rebekah Henson, Ben Hennesy, Rachel Lambert and Shannon Flannery. All tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the box office or reserved by calling the 610.225.5545. Each $5 admission includes a free coffee and snack. COMMENCEMENT MAY 10
The College of Arts and Sciences ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on the Auxiliary Field. The ceremony for all students in the Campolo College of Graduate and Professional Studies will begin there at 2:30 p.m. Commencement will be held on the campus at 1300 Eagle Road in St. Davids, PA. The commencement speaker is Dr. Randall Balmer, distinguished historian and professor of American religious history at Barnard College of Columbia University. The ceremony will be held outside, rain or shine. In the event of lightning or severe weather, the ceremony will be held in the Gym. Visitors may park in the main campus lots or residence hall lots along Eagle Road; security staff will be directing motorists to available parking. Palmer Theological Seminary will hold its commencement on May 17 at 11 a.m. at Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, located on West Cheltenham Ave. in Philadelphia. The speaker is David R. PRISCILLA INSTITUTE WOMEN'S FAIR MAY 3
The Priscilla Institute at the Hestenes Center for Christian Women in Leadership is having its Fourth Annual Women’s Fair on Saturday, May 3, from 8AM-3PM at Palmer Theological Seminary. The theme is "Women Living in the Promise: Justice, Empowerment and Healing." The purposes is to heighten women’s awareness of the opportunities that exist for them to realize their highest level of leadership potential.
The Fair begins with a Continental Breakfast at 8AM. Rev. Dr. Maureen L. Davis from Open Door Mission True Light Church in Philadelphia is the Plenary Speaker. The plenary session begins at 9AM, followed by six workshops. The luncheon program begins at noon followed by a repeat of the six morning sessions. PALESTINIAN ART DISPLAY AT LIBRARY THROUGH APRIL 25
Come see photos taken by EU student Adam Beach of Arab Palestinians who live in either the occupied Palestinian territories or are citizens of Israel. Most of the persons pictured are refugees. Prints are for sale. Adam Beach is an emerging photojournalist and student of Middle Eastern Studies and Cultural Anthropology. From May to July 2007 Adam traveled throughout the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Israel with EU students Megan Tahquette and Peder Wiegner photographing and filming various forms of nonviolent resistance against the Israeli occupation. Beach's photos will be part of a documentary film project set to be released in May, 2008. The film is called Handala and will be screened at film festivals and artistic venues on the East Coast and Midwest. Beach can be contacted at wagepeacebeach@ gmail.com.
