NANCY McWILLIAMS SPEAKS NOV. 19

Counseling Psychology @ Eastern University presents guest lecturer Nancy McWilliams speaking on “The Paranoid Personality” Nov. 19 from 6-9 p.m. in McInnis Auditorium, St. Davids. Attendance is free for psychologists, educators, students and counselors. Three continuing education credits may be given for a fee of $30. Nancy McWilliams is the author of several books and numerous articles on personality, psychoanalytic theories, psychopathology, and psychotherapy. She is on the faculty of the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers - the State University of New Jersey. ORLANDO COSTAS LECTURE AT SEMINARY OCT. 4

PalmerGordon-Conwell Theological Seminary Professor of Social Ethics Dr. Eldin Villafañe will deliver the 2008 Orlando E. Costas Lecture on Tuesday, October 4, at 11 a.m. at Palmer Seminary. Dr. Villafañe is widely recognized as being among the nation’s top Latino scholars. An awards luncheon (at about 1:15 p.m.) featuring Latino/a cuisine will follow the lecture. BREEZEWAY OPEN DURING RENOVATION

Construction to expand the Breezeway's dining room on the St. Davids campus will continue through most of the semester. However, the Breezeway will be open during the construction. Just enter through the parking lot side of Guffin Hall. And if you want more information about the project, visit http://www.easterndining.com/.

HOW TO USE AN EU VAN

VanAre you faculty, staff or a student and want to use an Eastern van this year? Please read carefully:

  • To request an Eastern van, fill out the reservation form at http://www.eastern.edu/enet/VanReqForm.html. The request goes to Athletics first, and then to Service Learning if they cannot fill it. Each office handles the keys for their vans.
  • You must have an Eastern van license to drive a van. All Eastern van licenses expire at the end of July and must be renewed before you can drive this year. To renew, please bring a copy of your current driver's license and your old Eastern van license to the Information desk in Walton 4. You do not have to take another driving test but will have to fill out two forms.
  • First-time drivers must get a van driver application from their sponsoring department and schedule a van driver test with Security, usually on Thursdays or Fridays (X1711). You will need a copy of your current driver's license and will fill out three forms.

HOMECOMING AND FAMILY WEEKEND OCT. 8-11

Our Homecoming celebration, "Still Havin' Fun!" is October 11. A special Alumni Chapel will be held Wed., Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. in the Gym, and a Worship Service concludes the weekend on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. in McInnis Auditorium. Saturday is packed with fun events including tours, Fall Festival, soccer, Planetarium shows, lots of food, and much more. WRITING CENTER OPEN SEPT. 8

Writing CenterThe Writing and Tutoring Centers at St. Davids will be open starting Monday, Sept. 8.  The Writing Center will be open for appointments and walk-ins for students in the College of Arts and Sciences from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday; and 6-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday.  Tutoring is available by appointment only.  Questions?  Contact John Nordlof (X1453) about the Writing Center and Thelma Gray (X5836) about the Tutoring Center.

SENIOR ORIENTATIONS SEPT. 4-8

Mandatory! If you are graduating from the College of Arts and Sciences Dec. 2008 or May 2009, sign up outside Walton 203 at St. Davids for your choice of group orientations. You'll register with Careers & Calling, receive guides for writing resumes and the job search, and other free stuff. Even if you think you have a job, are hoping to volunteer for a year or two, or are planning on graduate school, come meet Tess Bradley, Director, and register your intent. Questions or concerns? All students in the College of Arts and Sciences with incomplete health records have had an academic hold placed on their record.  PLEASE CHECK YOUR RECORD. This hold will freeze your grades and make it impossible to register for next semester's classes.  To have the hold released, contact the Student Health Center at X5955.

General hours for the Student Health Center are Monday-Thursday 9a.m.-12noon,1p.m.-6p.m.; and Friday 8a.m.-4p.m.  No appointment necessary.

Doctor's hours are Monday-10a.m.-12noon, Tuesday 1-3p.m., Wednesday 5-6p.m., Thursday 10a.m.-12noon.  Appointments appreciated.  Walk-ins welcome.

SPRING BREAK IN ITALY

STUDENT LEADERS CONFERENCE HERE NOV. 7-9

DELAWARE CO. SYMPHONY SEPT. 28 AND OCT. 19

ViolinsThe Delaware County Symphony will present the first concert of its Chamber Concert Series for the 2008-2009 season on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. in the Meagher Theatre at Neumann College, Aston, PA. Tickets are $10, $8 for seniors/students, and free for children 12 and under with paying adult. There is ample free parking and the Center is handicapped-accessible. Included on the program are Schubert's Trio in E-flat for Piano, Violin and Cello, op. 100 and  Shostakovich's Quintet for Piano and Strings in G minor, op. 57.  The first full symphony concert for the 2008-09 season will be on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 3:00 p.m. with an All Russian concert. MISSIONS TRIPS FOR 2008-2009

Missions Forum, Oct. 22-24, 2008: Missions organizations and activities on campus, sponsored by Student Missions Fellowship (SMF).

New Orleans, Jan. 2-11, 2009: A team will do Hurricane Katrina relief and construction along the Gulf  Coast with a local church and Habitat.

Haiti, Jan. 3-11, 2009: A team of 9 will partner with Beyond Borders for a Transformational Travel trip.

Dominican Republic, Feb 28 - Mar. 8, 2009: Our team will continue Eastern’s work in El Fondo with Food for the Hungry and Goshen Baptist. Applications available in September.

Habitat for Humanity, Feb 28 - Mar. 8, 2009: Two teams will tackle low-cost home construction in the U.S. over spring break. Applications available in the fall.
