New Item!HABITAT WORK DAYS OCT. 4

Sign up for either of the two Habitat for Humanity work days this Saturday, October 4. One group will be going to Norristown and that group has 4 open slots. The other group will be going to Pottstown to work and that group has 3 open slots. Everyone going on the trips will meet at 7 a.m. outside the dining commons in St. Davids, and the groups will leave the work sites to return to Eastern about 3:30 p.m. Please bring your own lunch. AUTHOR TOM ZOELLNER SPEAKS OCT. 20

Writer Tom Zoellner will speak on "The Power of Words" on Monday, Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Baird Library, Walton Hall, St. Davids Campus. Tom Zoellner was Paul Rusesabagina's co-writer on his autobiography, AN ORDINARY MAN, which tells the true story behind the events that inspired the movie HOTEL RWANDA. Tom is also the author of The Heartless Stone, an investigation into the inner workings of the diamond industry, named a "Best Book of 2006" by Library Journal.

CROSS COUNTRY TEAM OCT. 11

Athletics LogoThis year Eastern has its largest cross country team competing in the Gywnedd Mercy Invitational at Militia Hill State Park the morning of Oct. 11.

TEMPLE DANCE SHOWCASE OCT. 3-4

Eastern's dance professor Dr. Joselli Deans is one of the alumni choreographers in this dance presentation at Temple's Conwell Dance Theater in Phila. Joselli's dance "Seeking Routes" will be performed in the Dance Alumni Showcase concert. Performances are Oct. 3 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 4 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and will feature several Eastern University dancers. Tickets are $20 general admission and $15 students and seniors. DR. HAUERWAS SPEAKS OCT. 2

The Metanexus Lecture Series, co-sponsored by the Templeton Honors College, presents Dr. Hauerwas, professor of theological ethics at Duke University Divinity School, who will talk about the dignity of difference. Thursday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in McInnis Auditorium, St. Davids. His talk, “Pentecost,” looks at humanity’s prospects of transforming a trend of domination into a culture of communication. ASTRONAUT PLANETARIUM SHOWS OCT.3- 4

AstronautAstronaut, the latest immersive planetarium show created by the National Space Centre, takes you from Earth into space... and beyond. Presented in stunning high-definition 360-degree fulldome video and explosive surround sound, ASTRONAUT is out of this world! Show Dates are: Fri. Oct. 3, and Sat. Oct 4. Show times are 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. each night. Tickets are by reservation only and are $5 per seat, pay at the door. NANCY McWILLIAMS SPEAKS NOV. 19

Counseling Psychology @ Eastern University presents guest lecturer Nancy McWilliams speaking on “The Paranoid Personality” Nov. 19 from 6-9 p.m. in McInnis Auditorium, St. Davids. Attendance is free for psychologists, educators, students and counselors. Three continuing education credits may be given for a fee of $30. Nancy McWilliams is the author of several books and numerous articles on personality, psychoanalytic theories, psychopathology, and psychotherapy. She is on the faculty of the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers - the State University of New Jersey. CHANGE FOR COSTAS LECTURE OCT. 4

Dr. Pablo R. Diaz, Vice President of Ministries for Guideposts and a contributing writer for the annual Daily Guideposts devotional, will deliver the 2008 Orlando E. Costas Lecture on Tuesday, October 4, at 11 a.m. at Palmer Seminary. Dr. Diaz grew up in a New York City public housing development, overcoming poverty, peer pressure, and many personal obstacles. An awards luncheon (at about 1:15 p.m.) featuring Latino/a cuisine will follow the lecture. Cost for the buffet luncheon is $10, $5 for students. Our Homecoming celebration, "Still Havin' Fun!" is October 11. VAN FOR STUDENT VOTERS NOV. 4

VanOn election day, November 4, the Political Awareness Club at Eastern and Student Development are coordinating transportation to and from polling locations. This is for any student who is registered in Radnor Township. The van will leave from the McInnis Parking Lot, St. Davids, right next to the lower entrance of HHC. The shuttle service starts at 11 a.m. and the last van will leave at 7 p.m. Vans will leave every hour on the hour. The polls close at 8 p.m. Students will need their voter registration card and one form of ID to vote.

MAJOR AND MINOR DANCE PROGRAM AUDITIONS OCT. 13

Monday, Oct. 13 from 1:30-4:00 p.m. at the Dance Studio in the Gym. The audition is a full class audition and interview for those auditioning for the dance major.  Dance minors also take this class for leveling purposes. The class will include modern dance, ballet, and at least one major jazz combination.  Please bring appropriate dance shoes and no tights or socks, only bare feet will be allowed for modern.  Please wear dance clothing so your body can be seen. HALLOWEEN HISTORY AT MARPLE LIBRARY OCT. 13

The Friends of the Marple Public Library invite us on Monday, Oct. 13 at 7:15 p.m. for an evening with Prof. J. Joseph Edgette from Widener University. This program will be a lively presentation that explains the true story of the origins, customs, and traditions of Halloween. Appropriate for ages 12 an up. 5K RUN/WALK FUNDRAISER OCT. 25

Profugo, a nonprofit, will host Sweat for Hope at 9 a.m. on October 25 at Ridley Creek State Park. People of all ages and abilities are welcome. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers in 6 different age categories. All participants 60 and over will be awarded prizes. The entry fee is $25, which will be waived for participants with $100 in pledges. All money raised will support Profugo’s sustainable development programs. Families are encouraged to participate as there will be entertainment for children. Teams from universities are encouraged to sign up. There will be a complimentary BBQ for all participants. MISSIONS TRIPS FOR 2008-2009

Missions Forum, Oct. 22-24, 2008: Missions organizations and activities on campus, sponsored by Student Missions Fellowship (SMF).

New Orleans, Jan. 2-11, 2009: A team will do Hurricane Katrina relief and construction along the Gulf  Coast with a local church and Habitat.

Haiti, Jan. 3-11, 2009: A team of 9 will partner with Beyond Borders for a Transformational Travel trip.

Dominican Republic, Feb 28 - Mar. 8, 2009: Our team will continue Eastern’s work in El Fondo with Food for the Hungry and Goshen Baptist. Applications available in September.

Habitat for Humanity, Feb 28 - Mar. 8, 2009: Two teams will tackle low-cost home construction in the U.S. over spring break. Applications available in the fall.
