AUTHOR TOM ZOELLNER SPEAKS OCT. 20

Writer Tom Zoellner will speak on "The Power of Words" on Monday, Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Baird Library, Walton Hall, St. Davids Campus. Tom Zoellner was Paul Rusesabagina's co-writer on his autobiography, AN ORDINARY MAN, which tells the true story behind the events that inspired the movie HOTEL RWANDA. Tom is also the author of The Heartless Stone, an investigation into the inner workings of the diamond industry, named a "Best Book of 2006" by Library Journal.

WARNER LIBRARY NEEDS YOUR HELP

We would like to solicit your help with a research project that Mark Puterbaugh, information services librarian, is conducting with funds from the Medical Library Association. He is studying nurses’ attitudes toward online nursing education courses, including those that use virtual social world technologies. He is gathering data via an open survey found at http://www.eastern.edu/library/Survey.html (there is also a link available at the bottom of Eastern University Library's Web page). We are looking for feedback from a variety of nurses.

PIANIST EINAV YARDEN PERFORMS OCT. 26

"Wow! Right out of the chute she had me sitting on the edge of my chair," said Minnesota Public Radio about brilliant young Israeli pianist Einav Yarden. Discover the joy of music yourself when Tri-County Concerts presents Einav Yarden performing works by Haydn, Schumann, Bartok and Stravinsky in a recital at McInnis Auditorium, St. Davids, at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 26.  Admission is FREE for Eastern students, but tickets are required. Pick up your tickets at the Music Department, Room 203 in Workman Hall. Tickets for general admission ($15) and seniors ($10) will be available at the concert. NANCY McWILLIAMS SPEAKS NOV. 19

Counseling Psychology @ Eastern University presents guest lecturer Nancy McWilliams speaking on “The Paranoid Personality” Nov. 19 from 6-9 p.m. in McInnis Auditorium, St. Davids. Attendance is free for psychologists, educators, students and counselors. Three continuing education credits may be given for a fee of $30. Nancy McWilliams is the author of several books and numerous articles on personality, psychoanalytic theories, psychopathology, and psychotherapy. She is on the faculty of the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers - the State University of New Jersey. HOST A STUDENT AT THANKSGIVING

Some international students are looking for home-stay opportunities during the Thanksgiving holiday. Dorms close, but international students live too far away to go home each time there's a break. And some just want to experience the American family and the Thanksgiving tradition. VAN FOR STUDENT VOTERS NOV. 4

VanOn election day, November 4, the Political Awareness Club at Eastern and Student Development are coordinating transportation to and from polling locations. This is for any student who is registered in Radnor Township. The van will leave from the McInnis Parking Lot, St. Davids, right next to the lower entrance of HHC. The shuttle service starts at 11 a.m. and the last van will leave at 7 p.m. Vans will leave every hour on the hour. The polls close at 8 p.m. Students will need their voter registration card and one form of ID to vote.

COMMUNICATION STUDIES MEETING OCT. 13

MAJOR AND MINOR DANCE PROGRAM AUDITIONS OCT. 13

DanceMonday, Oct. 13 from 1:30-4:00 p.m. at the Dance Studio in the Gym. The audition is a full class audition and interview for those auditioning for the dance major.  Dance minors also take this class for leveling purposes. The class will include modern dance, ballet, and at least one major jazz combination.  Please bring appropriate dance shoes and no tights or socks, only bare feet will be allowed for modern.  Please wear dance clothing so your body can be seen. HALLOWEEN HISTORY AT MARPLE LIBRARY OCT. 13

The Friends of the Marple Public Library invite us on Monday, Oct. 13 at 7:15 p.m. for an evening with Prof. J. Joseph Edgette from Widener University. This program will be a lively presentation that explains the true story of the origins, customs, and traditions of Halloween. Appropriate for ages 12 an up. 5K RUN/WALK FUNDRAISER OCT. 25

Profugo, a nonprofit, will host Sweat for Hope at 9 a.m. on October 25 at Ridley Creek State Park. People of all ages and abilities are welcome. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers in 6 different age categories. All participants 60 and over will be awarded prizes. The entry fee is $25, which will be waived for participants with $100 in pledges. All money raised will support Profugo’s sustainable development programs. Families are encouraged to participate as there will be entertainment for children. Teams from universities are encouraged to sign up. There will be a complimentary BBQ for all participants. MISSIONS TRIPS FOR 2008-2009

Missions Forum, Oct. 22-24, 2008: Missions organizations and activities on campus, sponsored by Student Missions Fellowship (SMF).

New Orleans, Jan. 2-11, 2009: A team will do Hurricane Katrina relief and construction along the Gulf  Coast with a local church and Habitat.

Haiti, Jan. 3-11, 2009: A team of 9 will partner with Beyond Borders for a Transformational Travel trip.

Dominican Republic, Feb 28 - Mar. 8, 2009: Our team will continue Eastern’s work in El Fondo with Food for the Hungry and Goshen Baptist. Applications available in September.

Habitat for Humanity, Feb 28 - Mar. 8, 2009: Two teams will tackle low-cost home construction in the U.S. over spring break. Applications available in the fall.
