PILGRIMS LECTURE OCT. 28

"The Pilgrims-Sojourners Traveling towards Toleration" by Dr. Jeremy D. Bangs is a special lecture on the 400th Anniversary of the Pilgrims departure from England. It will be Oct. 28 from 7:30-9p.m. in Eagle Hall Great Room, St. Davids. Dr. Jeremy Dupertuis Bangs is the Director of the Leiden American Pilgrim Museum in the Netherlands and author of several books including Swiss Sisters Separated: Pioneer Life in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Washington and Letters on Toleration: Dutch Aid to Persecuted Swiss and Palatine Mennonites, 1615-1699, both published by Picton Press.

WARNER LIBRARY NEEDS YOUR HELP

We would like to solicit your help with a research project that Mark Puterbaugh, information services librarian, is conducting with funds from the Medical Library Association. He is studying nurses’ attitudes toward online nursing education courses, including those that use virtual social world technologies. He is gathering data via an open survey found at http://www.eastern.edu/library/Survey.html (there is also a link available at the bottom of Eastern University Library's Web page). We are looking for feedback from a variety of nurses.

NATIONAL CHRISTIAN STUDENT LEADERS CONF. NOV. 7-9

PIANIST EINAV YARDEN PERFORMS OCT. 26

Pianist"Wow! Right out of the chute she had me sitting on the edge of my chair," said Minnesota Public Radio about brilliant young Israeli pianist Einav Yarden. Discover the joy of music yourself when Tri-County Concerts presents Einav Yarden performing works by Haydn, Schumann, Beethoven, Bach and Stravinsky in a recital at McInnis Auditorium, St. Davids, at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 26.  Admission is FREE for Eastern students, but tickets are required. Pick up your tickets at the Music Department, Room 203 in Workman Hall. Tickets for general admission ($15) and seniors ($10) will be available at the concert. NANCY McWILLIAMS SPEAKS NOV. 19

Counseling Psychology @ Eastern University presents guest lecturer Nancy McWilliams speaking on “The Paranoid Personality” Nov. 19 from 6-9 p.m. in McInnis Auditorium, St. Davids. Attendance is free for psychologists, educators, students and counselors. Three continuing education credits may be given for a fee of $30. Nancy McWilliams is the author of several books and numerous articles on personality, psychoanalytic theories, psychopathology, and psychotherapy. She is on the faculty of the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers - the State University of New Jersey. Students in the College of Arts and Sciences, please check your student account.  If you have an outstanding balance you will not be able to register until your balance is paid in full. Students on payment plans:  Make sure that your final payments are completed (final payment for Fall due date was October 15). Students expecting loans or other aid: Make sure that you have completed all necessary paperwork with the Financial Aid office.  If you have not completed your Stafford Loan Application or Entrance Loan Counseling, visit: www.aessuccess.org. Holds will be placed on all past due accounts on October 20.

VAN FOR STUDENT VOTERS NOV. 4

VanOn election day, November 4, the Political Awareness Club at Eastern and Student Development are coordinating transportation to and from polling locations. This is for any student who is registered in Radnor Township. The van will leave from the McInnis Parking Lot, St. Davids, right next to the lower entrance of HHC. The shuttle service starts at 11 a.m. and the last van will leave at 7 p.m. Vans will leave every hour on the hour. The polls close at 8 p.m. Students will need their voter registration card and one form of ID to vote.

HOST A STUDENT AT THANKSGIVING

Some international students are looking for home-stay opportunities during the Thanksgiving holiday. Dorms close, but international students live too far away to go home each time there’s a break. And some just want to experience the American family and the Thanksgiving tradition. MISSIONS TRIPS FOR 2008-2009

Missions Forum, Oct. 22-24, 2008: Missions organizations and activities on campus, sponsored by Student Missions Fellowship (SMF).

New Orleans, Jan. 2-11, 2009: A team will do Hurricane Katrina relief and construction along the Gulf  Coast with a local church and Habitat.

Haiti, Jan. 3-11, 2009: A team of 9 will partner with Beyond Borders for a Transformational Travel trip.

Dominican Republic, Feb 28 - Mar. 8, 2009: Our team will continue Eastern’s work in El Fondo with Food for the Hungry and Goshen Baptist. Applications available in September.

Habitat for Humanity, Feb 28 - Mar. 8, 2009: Two teams will tackle low-cost home construction in the U.S. over spring break. Applications available in the fall.
