SWINE FLU UPDATE
You are likely following with interest the developments concerning the swine influenza which has been identified in humans in Mexico, the U.S., Canada, Spain and New Zealand. The count of infections in the U.S. as of April 28 was approx. 100 cases with one death.
The virus presents as a typical influenza with fever, respiratory symptoms and body aches. A person is contagious for up to seven days following illness onset. This virus can be treated by two anti-viral medications available by prescription. There is no vaccine at this time for swine influenza and treatment with the anti-viral medications may or may not be successful.
Swine influenza is not spread by food, so you cannot get it from eating pork or pork products. It is spread by human to human contact and contact with body fluids. The best prevention is the same as for any flu-like virus.
To reduce your chances for infection, follow normal precautions recommended during any influenza season:
*Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash.
*Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
*Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, which can spread germs.
*Limit contact with other people when you have a respiratory infection.

SLD FACULTY FEATURED IN THE TRANSFORMATION JOURNAL
Congratulations to the faculty at the School of Leadership and Development (SLD) at Eastern University. The articles written by our faculty featured in this issue identify cutting-edge work that is being done in Christian development theory and praxis.
