BIKE-A-THON OCT. 31

Get on your donkey and ride…The first annual EU/Scripture Union Bike-a-thon is Saturday, Oct. 31. All proceeds benefit inner-city children’s ministries in the mid-Atlantic states. The ride is from the Warner Library parking lot in St. Davids to the Phila. Art Museum and back. 36 miles round trip (18 miles if you go just there and catch a van ride home). DAVID CAMPBELL ART IN MCINNIS

David C. Campbell's paintings and drawings are on display throughout Oct. in the McInnis Gallery, St. Davids. He has received numerous commissions for portraits and still lifes, and his paintings have been purchased for private and corporate collections. David has always enjoyed the challenge of blending the the formal properties of painting with his convictions as a Christian. His work has been shown in galleries in Philadelphia, Boston, and San Juan, along with such artists as Andrew Wyeth, Richard Maury, and George Nick. David lives in Media, PA and teaches at Arcadia University.

LINCOLN SYMPOSIUM AT EASTERN UNIVERSITY OCT. 22-24

The Templeton Honors College will host a free public symposium celebrating the legacy of Abraham Lincoln. "The Last Best Hope of Earth:  A Symposium on the Bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s Birth" will be held at the St. Davids campus October 22-24, with some events held throughout the Wayne community. Speakers include a distinguished group of scholars and authors:Dr. Allen Guelzo, Dr. Lucas Morel, Dr. Joseph Fornieri and others. There will be book signings and discussions. BEATLES OCT. 23

EU Theatre presents My Soldiers, a new play by Richard Kalinoski, directed and developed by Mark Hallen, Director of Theatre. It opens on Veterans' Day, Nov. 11,  and runs through Nov. 14 with evening performances at 8 p.m. and a matinee performance on Nov. 15 at 3 p.m. Held in McInnis Auditorium, St. Davids. All students, please check your declared graduation date, which can be accessed on E-Net Student Services under Biographical Information.  If the date listed is not correct, or if you have changed your name, please contact the Associate Registrar at lbristol@eastern.edu.  You will be eligible to participate in the ceremony this December if you present an approved plan to have all coursework finished by December 31, 2009.

PLANNING TO STUDY OFF-CAMPUS?

All Arts and Sciences students who plan to spend a semester abroad or at a U.S.-based program must first submit an Eastern University Study Abroad/Away Clearance.  Students will not be permitted to apply financial aid to any program unless they have an approved clearance on file.  Deadlines are October 15 for spring semester and March 15 for fall semester.  Please contact Lori Bristol (ext. 5010, lbristol@eastern.edu) in the Registrar's Office with questions or to pick up clearance packets.

LONDON AND PARIS TRIP 2010

A course (FA 280) is being offered in spring 2010 which includes a trip to London and Paris (with a train ride in between).  Anyone in the Eastern Community is welcome to go, with or without the course (relatives, alums, friends, faculty, staff as well as students).  The cost is $2312, which covers airfare, hotels, ground transportation in London and Paris, daily breakfast, one dinner, and various site tours and entrance fees. The Urban Studies department is looking for 2-3 van drivers to serve the Urban Studies Master's students during their upcoming residency from September 25-October 3.
