ST. DAVIDS, Pa. — Eastern University
senior guard Lenny DiMaria scored 11
first half points to eclipse the
1000 point mark for his career and
to help the Eagles to a 34-21 first
half lead over the Scarlet Raptors
of Rutgers-Camden. The Eagles
extended their advantage to twenty
early in the second half and held on
for a 66-53. The fourth straight win
lifts the Eagles to 14-8 on the year
and helps them to build momentum
into the last three PAC games ofthe
year.
DiMaria hit the 1000 point mark on a
three pointer from the wing on a
nice kick out from fellow captain
David Volpe. It was DiMaria's third
three pointer of the the opening
frame. After the game, Coach
Nadelhoffer praised his only senior
for his consistency and character.
"Lenny has been a rock in our
program over the past four years.
the thousand point plateau is a
great measure of his consistency
throughout his time in the program.
Ikt was great to have Lenny's
parents and little brothers here to
see him reach this milestone. I
really expected that he would hit
the mark on an inside basket or free
throw, but it is a good indicator of
his versatility that he hit three
threes in the first half.
The Eagles jumped to the early lead
and were never threatened as ten
players scored for the hosts.
DiMaria led the Eagles with 14
points and six rebounds. Junior
forward Matt Malloy continued his
production with a very efficient 10
point five assist effort. Jason
Reels came in off the bench to score
11 points on just seven shots and
Kevin Raab led all rebounders with
seven caroms in just over ten
minutes of game action.
The Scarlet Raptors (5-17) put four
players in double figures, but shot
just 35% from the field in the
decisive first half. Antoine Miller
scored 13, and was joined Dane
Nicholson, Josh Askew, and Rory
Thornton in double figures. Eastern
shot 51% for the game, and connected
on 7 of 16 from behind the arc.
The Eagles travel across the street
for the second installment of the
Battle of Eagle Road, when they take
on Cabrini Thursday night. the
second game of the double-header is
scheduled to begin at 8:00 pm.
