Eagles rally not enough as Neumann pulls away late
ST. DAVIDS, Pa. — In a game where both teams shot 30% from the field
rebounds and foul shooting became very important. The Neumann College Women's
basketball team improved to 7-1 in PAC Play as they secured 24 offensive
rebounds in a 62-48 win at Eastern University. Brittany Whetts led the Knights
with 14 points and 17 rebounds.
Eastern jumped to an early 11-8 lead on a Hannah Tobin three point play with
thirteen minutes to go in the first half. The Knights responded with a 14-0
run over a five minute period to build an 11 point lead. The Knights then
built their biggest lead of the half when first-year post Dorothy Rozier
scored inside at the 7 minute mark to put the guests up 26-13. Raya Shores
found her way to the line and hit 7-8 from the stripe for the Eagles to help
the hosts cut the deficit to 35-27 at half.
Emily Reeser led the Eagles at half with 11 points on three three-pointers,
and Shores had nine. Rozier and Whetts each had eight for the visitors.
Neither team shot particularly well for the half, but the Knights secured 12
offensive rebounds to help generate their margin.
After another Rozier bucket inside, the Eagles responded with six straight
points on a pair pf Tobin baskets and a lay in from Shores. The hosts got
blocked shots from Jeriah Garton and Tobin on consecutive possessions and were
able to tie the game at 41 with 11:40 to go in the contest.
The Knights responded with an 18-2 run over the next nine minutes to put the
game away. Shores led all scorers in the game with 19 points. Tobin and Reeser
joined her in double figures with 12 and 11. Neumann put two players in double
figures with Rozier 13 points and 10 rebounds.
