Shores' 25 Not Enough as Eagles Fall at Neumann

ASTON, Pa,- In traveling to Neumann College’s Bruder Gymnasium for a PAC South match-up, the Eastern University Women’s Basketball team hoped to play the role of spoiler to the Knights’ playoff run. The Eagles got a game-high 25 from Raya Shores, and held things close, but were unable to stop Neumann’s inside scoring as the Knights pulled away to a 72-63 win.

The Eagles, who trailed 36-30 at the half, kept within striking distance for the entire second half. Eastern shot just 39% for the game, but were able to find their way to the free throw line in the second half and forced the Knights into 29 turnovers. The Knights fared only slightly better from the field, but found their way inside to first year standout Brittany Whetts when they ran into problems. Whetts keyed the Neumann win with 20 points and nine rebounds. Kim Hinkle contributed ten assists to go with her nine points and five rebounds.

The Eagles jumped to a 7-0 lead out of the gate, but held their last lead at 13-12. Hannah Tobin scored 14 points and added 8 rebounds in the loss for the Eagles. Eastern returns to action Monday night with a 6:00 home game against Cedar Crest College.
