Careers & Calling
THE MISSION of Careers & Calling is to provide information, encouragement and opportunities for each College of Arts & Sciences student to develop the skills necessary at each stage of career development: Self-Exploration, including the consideration of God's purpose for her or his life; Career Exploration; and Job Search.
"Not that I have already...reached the goal; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own... Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 3: 12-14
FIRST YEAR STUDENTS: SELF ASSESSMENT
During Orientation, all first year students meet with C&C staff and register their career interests. Any first year student is welcome to participate in one-on-one counseling, and many are referred by their advisors. Testing including the Career Exploration Inventory, MBTI and Spiritual Gifts is available. As a practical help, a list of available Part Time Jobs is available under Job Opportunities.
SOPHOMORE YEAR: CAREER EXPLORATION All sophomores are welcomed back at an event hosted by C&C the first week of the semester. Events throughout the year include "Do Majors Matter?" and workshops on Career Exploration, Spiritual Gifts, Resume Writing and more. Sophomores needing help choosing a major or with any career related issue are welcome to meet with C&C staff.
JUNIOR YEAR: EXPERIENCE
Juniors are encouraged to acquire experience through internships, volunteer work or part time and summer jobs. Counselors are happy to work individually with students seeking internships on search strategies. Careers & Calling publishes weekly Internship and Volunteer Opportunities available on this web site.
SENIOR YEAR: JOB SEARCH
In September Seniors attend one of the required Senior Orientations. Students who need help focusing goals or developing a job search plan are referred for career counseling. Help with resumes and other job search tools is available throughout the year through workshops and individual counseling. Careers & Calling also participates in or hosts regional and campus career related events and publishes a weekly list of Full Time Job Opportunities available under Job Opportunities.
