Leadership Fellows Program

Kali in Uganda with OperationNet
A major scholarship program for those with demonstrated leadership ability
"The Leadership Fellows Program has been my favorite and most meaningful experience here at Eastern. LFP has given me the opportunity to better my leadership skills while developing lifelong community. It has helped me use my God given passions and talents to create and lead the Operation Net group on campus. Operation Net is an organization that raises awareness and money for the issue of malaria and provides and distributes mosquito nets for the nations of Uganda and Haiti. LFP has been a highlight of my college experience and is an amazing program." - Kali Fairchild, Class of 2013
The Leadership Fellows Program (LFP) is designed to help prepare Eastern University students for future leadership roles in the struggle to address the world's great needs. Through education, experience, leadership training and mentoring, students learn how to identify their leadership styles, improve communication skills, plan effectively, and inspire others as Christ-centered servant leaders.
Leadership Fellows Grants are available to 40 entering Arts & Sciences students who have demonstrated leadership potential through high school, church or community activities, as well as academic achievement.
Grants are for $13,000 a year and are renewable annually if all program requirements have been met. The LFP grant will replace any existing academic scholarship/grant received upon admission to Eastern University.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS Leadership Fellows take two required courses, Introduction to Leadership (INST100) in the spring of their first year, and Leadership Practicum (INST300) while they hold a major leadership position on campus. Serving as a leader on campus either sophomore or junior year is the other major requirement of the program.
Entering LFP students attend an orientation before the school year begins and a series of Leadership Forums as well as participate in a small group during first semester. All returning students participate in a Winter Day event at the beginning of the second semester as well as the Leadership Forums and other events as required. Upperclass students are expected to mentor entering students and participate in the life of the program. Additionally, LFP students must maintain a GPA of 3.0.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Applicants are admitted to the LFP on the basis of their leadership during their high school years, as well as their academic achievement. All areas of activity are represented in the LFP, including student government, clubs, theatre, arts, media, National Honor Society, sports and church organizations.
Minimum GPA is 3.3 for admission although the average GPA for a cohort is usually above 3.7. Although SAT or ACT scores must be reported and may be considered in the admissions process, there is no specific minimum required score.
