Position: Associate Professor of Urban Studies and Program Concentration Coordinator

The Urban Studies Program of Eastern University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty appointment to begin August 2007. Individual must be a skilled and experienced instructor as well as a scholar-practitioner with knowledge and experience in urban community development and interdisciplinary urban studies. Doctorate required in Urban Studies, Community Development, Sociology or related field.

Position Responsibilities:

1. Duties include teaching a standard load (currently four courses each semester but reduced for alternate work assignments), along with standard academic responsibilities after the first year, including student advising and committee assignments.

2. Serving as Concentration Coordinator for the Community Development concentration of the MA in Urban Studies program.

3. Help with revision of catalog copy.

4. Speak at Open Houses and participate in other student recruitment activities as necessary.

5. Assist with preparation of departmental reports and other documents as requested by the Chair/Program Director.

6. Attend School for Social Change meetings, departmental meetings and other Eastern University meetings as needed.

7. Stay abreast of current trends in their field; recommend to the department any curricular or other programmatic changes that need to be made.

8. Assist in identifying full-time, part-time and adjunct faculty who can teach in his/her program(s) or in the core.

9. Assist with other program-related administrative tasks as assigned.

Deliverables Expected
1. Class schedules are produced in a timely manner.
2. Performance evaluations conducted and written annually.
3. Reports and other documents requested by the Chair/Program Director are written.
4. Proposals to the department are made to help solve/prevent program problems.
5. Students are advised through the program.
6. Faculty hired to cover course offerings

Faculty Status: Full-time/Part-time, Hourly/Salaried, Hours per week, Weeks per year
• Full-time
• Salaried position
• 10 month contract
• Two-course per year AWA for full-time faculty (25%).
• Summer: one course equivalent for administrative work
