The Esperanza College Librarian is responsible for the overall operation of the library.  The librarian is responsible for managing book acquisition, the book lending process, online resources, liaison with the Warner Library of Eastern University, inter-library loans and academic support to the faculty and dean.  The library should function as an extension of the classroom and a resource for the entire college community.  The librarian also provides direct customer service to students, faculty, staff and visitors.  The Librarian also oversees administration of the library cataloging system (OPALS).  The Librarian reports to the Dean of Esperanza College.  

Position Responsibilities

1. Develop a mission statement for the library.

2. Complete the sorting and cataloging of acquired books.

3. Develop a 5-year library plan and time line.

4. Assess the adequacy of the library book and journal collection, including e-books, and propose a multi-year book and journal acquisition plan, after consulting with the academic staff and faculty.

5. Administer the library cataloging and information system (OPALS).

6. Outreach to the faculty to provide assistance to students in support of their academic program, especially with regard to learning best research practices.

7. Supervise student workers and any others working in the library, including administration of the circulation desk.

8. Provide for a quiet environment in the library for study, research and reading.  

9. Establish and maintain an active ongoing working relationship with the Warner Library at Eastern University’s main campus in St. Davids.

10. Maintain current knowledge and skills level in library science by participating in conferences and/or taking graduate courses in the field.  
    
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent.  
• Operational experience in Library management, especially in planning and establishing new libraries;
• Familiarity with the educational needs and cultural dynamics of multicultural students, especially Latinos.
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Excel spreadsheets, word processing, Access. PowerPoint, Internet and email) is required.  
• Must be willing to work at the Esperanza College campus at Nueva Esperanza in North Philadelphia.
