Reporting to the Assistant to the Associate Dean of the School of Education, the Secretary supports the needs of departmental faculty; is responsible for working with the Director of Student Teaching & Field Experience on any needs for informing all students of federal, state and district requirements before being placed in schools for student teacher placement, letters and record keeping; maintains liaisons with current and former students; and, supervises the Helen Craymer Curriculum Lab and work-study students in the absence of the Director of the Curriculum Lab.
Position Responsibilities
1. Assists supervisors of student teachers with initial placement of student teachers, monitoring student files to be sure all requirements (Dept. of Education, State of PA and Education Department, Eastern) have been met.
2. Sends letters of request, confirmation and thanks to all cooperating teachers and school districts where student interns are placed and to all students confirming their placements.
3. Maintains records for the undergraduate and graduate education departments.
4. Supervises student workers in the Education Department and the Helen Craymer Curriculum Lab as needed.
5. Assists with the operation of the Helen Craymer Curriculum Lab when the Director of the Curriculum Lab is not present – checking in and out books, aiding students to find needed materials, supervising student workers, etc.
6. Greets students, university personnel and visitors.
7. Provides administrative assistance with faculty searches.
8. Serves as resource person for students registered with the Education Department– undergraduate majors and all graduate students, whether registered as majors or for certification programs.
9. Monitors Chapter 354 records on “program completers” each year and records on Educational Testing Service Website. Records Eastern University information on PDE Title II Website.
10. Monitors state requirements for Education Specialists I & II, Instructional I, II and Intern Certification, Supervisor and Principal Certification in the State of PA.
11. Monitors student records to be sure all courses have been completed, their program of study has been satisfactorily completed and that all Praxis Tests have been passed.

Grant Responsibilities (Including: Transition to Teaching 2006-2008(I.U. 14); Assistance for Teachers (proposal submitted) 2007-2009.)
1. Answers phone calls/e-mails from grant students and directs them to the proper channels.
2. Maintains separate files for all grant students tracking the following:
Program of Studies; USDOE contacts for each student; Transcripts; Praxis Scores
3. Maintains files for department
4. Ensures that the Registrar has updated class lists for the modules taught
5. Assists the Site Coordinator in obtaining books for off-site modules
6. Keeps records on each student for the certification process
Status: Staff, part-time, 20 hours/week, Mon-Thur 12:30-5:30 p.m., 12 months per year
Knowledge and Skills Required
• Excellent computer skills (Microsoft and Excel are required)
• Bachelor’s degree or 3-5 years office experience
• Keen eye to detail and customer service orientation
• Working experience with Pennsylvania certification process preferred
• Experience working with Grants preferred
• Understanding of and support for the University’s evangelical Christian mission
