Position: General Mechanic

Reporting to the Director of Plant Operations, the General Mechanic completes a scheduled preventative maintenance program, troubleshoots, maintains and makes general repairs on mechanical equipment.

Position Responsibilities

1. Completes preventative maintenance initiatives as scheduled / assigned.
2. Documents preventative maintenance services.
3. Maintains chillers, pumps and cooling towers.
4. Addresses work requests of a broad variety as assigned (mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, minor electric).
5. All other general maintenance responsibilities as assigned in order to keep the University and its operations functioning.
6. Embodies values of caring and compassion, justice and integrity, competence and affirmation.

Status: Staff, full time, regular, non-exempt, 40 hours/wk (Monday – Friday 1:30pm – 10:00pm), 12 months/yr

Availability for overtime necessary and “on call” availability a must. As required, emergency and/or inclement weather services are mandatory with this position.
   
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

A proven ability to maintain a scheduled preventative maintenance program on HVAC equipment and the knowledge to troubleshoot and make necessary repairs on mechanical systems; the ability to climb ladders, maneuver in tight areas, lift and move materials (in excess of 50 pounds), operate hand and power tools in a safe and proper manner; computer literacy with the American Auto Matrix – Energy Management Systems preferred but not required.  Current certification such as a Universal Technician and/or other HVAC certifications preferred but not required.  Must have a current, valid driver’s license and the availability for on-call coverage is required.  Must posses the ability to work with other mechanics and trades in order to successfully coordinate repairs and/or installation projects.  The successful candidate must be self-motivated and capable of working unsupervised.  Personal hand tools required.  Use of personal vehicle may be required.  It is essential that the incumbent exhibits an understanding of, and support for, the University’s evangelical Christian mission.
