Position Summary
The Admissions Counselor and Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach, reporting to the Director of Admissions and Director of Athletics, is responsible for the recruitment of students from a specific geographical area as well as coordination and direction of the Men’s Lacrosse Program. His/Her major task is to develop a communication strategy that will result in getting the Eastern University message into the hands of prospective students and adult influencers as well as plan and direct all aspects of the Men’s Lacrosse Program. In addition, he/she is responsible to establish and maintain ongoing relationships with students on the campus for the purpose of retention.
Position Responsibilities
1. Communicates appropriate information to ministers, counselors, para-church leaders, parents and student-athletes within the Christian community.
2. Visits high schools in the assigned geographic area and in areas from which students have applied or have shown interest
3. Implements the correspondence system in the assigned territory.
4. Interviews students from the assigned territory and other territories if needed.
5. Implements and maintains a home visitation program to explain the various aspects of the Eastern program to prospective students as well as to deliver registration and financial aid information.
6. Promotes the college as a conference center to ministers, counselors, para-church leaders and parents within the Christian community.
7. Assists in the coordination of Campus Visitation Days (Preview Days).
8. Facilitates linkage between current students and appropriate resources on the campus (i.e. Academic Advisors, CCAS, Financial Aid, Student Financial Services, and Registrar).
9. Plans and administer all aspects of the Men’s Lacrosse Program including but not limited to recruiting, equipment and supplies, travel and expenses and fundraising.
10. Gains and maintains knowledge of and observes all general and sport specific compliance issues for NCAA DIII
11. Act as positive role model for students and colleagues in support of all EU policies and processes.
12. Mentors individual MLAX athletes.
13. Understands and adheres to Eastern University, NCAA and Athletic Conference policies and procedures.
14. Embodies values of caring and compassion, justice and integrity, competence and affirmation.
15. Seeks to treat each member of the campus community with fairness, dignity and respect seeking a spirit of unity and harmony as we join together to achieve our common mission.
Status: Staff, full time, exempt, salary, 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must exhibit a personal understanding of, and operate in concert with, the Mission and Doctrinal Statements of the University. A bachelor’s degree is required, master’s degree preferred. Excellent written and oral skills are required. A proven ability to effectively communicate to students, parents and athletes is essential. Proven effective relational skills are also required. Knowledge of Men’s LAX DIII rules, experience as a lacrosse player and minimum of two years of successful coaching experience required. Computer literacy (Microsoft Office) is preferred. Current valid driver’s license and availability for frequent regional travel is required.
