Position: Coordinator, Intensive English as a Second Language Program

Eastern University, a university of the liberal arts and sciences located in St. Davids, Pennsylvania, invites applications for the position as the Coordinator of Intensive English as a Second Language Program. Under the supervision of the Director of International Student and Scholar Services, the IESL Program Coordinator coordinates the IESL Program and teaches ESL; provides support to international students in their integration to Eastern University and to American life, and assists the Office of International Student and Scholar Services as a DSO (Designated School Official) and ARO (Alternate Responsible Officer).

Position Responsibilities:
1. Is responsible for the coordination of the EU IESL program and teaches one group of up to 23 ESL students.
2. Coordinates programming geared to help international students adapt and integrate into the campus community, thereby supporting cultural exchange and global awareness on campus .
3. Oversees the participation of intercultural peer mentors who serve as conversation partners and cultural informants with international student English language learners (ELLs).
4. Provides ESL and academic support as needed to international students, or when possible refers students to appropriate internal and external resources for counseling, spiritual matters, health related needs, and/or academic matters.
5. Assists OISSS as a Designated School Officer authorized to carry out the various SEVIS functions required for F-1 and J-1 students. Assists in providing documents needed by F-1 and J-1 students. Maintains an up-to-date file on each student in compliance with SEVP regulations.
6. Advises international students on questions pertaining to how to navigate Eastern’s institutional systems and on adapting to U.S. culture. Provides logistical support when possible for students needing to visit local, state or federal government offices.
7. Assists with email and social networking to facilitate communication with students and encourage support networking among IPM program participants.
8. Assists the Director of International Student Services in providing an orientation for new international and exchange students.
9. Stays current with the changes in the field of international student advising by participating in local PAIEN, PaCIE and/or regional or national NAFSA meetings.

Status: Full time, staff, 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A bachelor's degree is required; knowledge and experience with international travel or intercultural relations is highly desired. Must be a US citizen or permanent resident. A working knowledge of computers and office/business software, Internet, and databases is essential, and experience with Windows, MS Office is highly preferred. Must have ESL teaching credentials. Knowledge of student visa regulations and experience with SEVIS a plus. A strong relational ability is required, which is reflected through a healthy self-esteem and an ability work with individual students of diverse cultural backgrounds. Initiative as demonstrated by self-motivation and tenacity to follow through on responsibilities while working closely with colleagues in the larger university community, is required, along with the ability to complete assignments and projects within an acceptable time frame. In addition, it is required to be able to follow consistent and comprehensive policies and procedures to be as effective and efficient as possible. There may also be frequent office interruptions by students and others, which require flexibility.
