Eastern University, a university of the liberal arts and sciences located in St. Davids, Pennsylvania, invites applications for the position as the Coordinator of Student Ministries and Service Learning. Reporting to the University Chaplain, the Coordinator works primarily with student workers and student volunteers to coordinate all aspects of the University’s Service Learning Programs. The Coordinator provides leadership through the organization, oversight and advisement of student centered mission trips and missions related student clubs and organizations within the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). Oversees all CAS student run ministry related programs and organizations: 3. Plans 6-8 annual mission trips for CAS students: 4. Coordinates facility and on site related logistics for the May Baccalaureate: 5. Status: Staff, full-time, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. 1. Coordinates the CAS (College of Arts & Sciences) Service Learning program:
a. Forms partnership with community sites.
b. Recruits and trains service learning counselors.
c. Arranges all related logistics for service learning and related events, including communications, advertising, assignments, recordkeeping, and transportation
d. Coordinates the INST 150 related service learning program, including the administrative responsibilities related to student placement and hours.
e. Works in partnership with the Student Employment Office, under Financial Aid, to identify sites for placement of students to earn their FWS through service to the community as required by the US Department of Education.
f. Evaluates and assesses at least annually enabling continuous improvement.
a. Recruits ministry leaders.
b. Assures year to year program and leadership carryover.
c. Advises all groups and coordinates individual group’s faculty advisors.
d. Mentors ministry leaders (individual and group).
e. Trains ministry leaders (individual and group).
f. Oversees fundraising and proper use of funding.
g. Evaluates and assesses at least annually, enabling continuous improvement.
a. Identifies trip locations and make all arrangements.
b. Trains student mission trip leaders and provides written training and informational material for advisors and team members.
c. Assures that emergency contacts are available for trip participants.
d. Recruits trip chaperones/advisors.
e. Oversees fund raising for and accounting of missions team related expenses.
f. Oversees the use of donated funds.
g. Provides reentry meetings/programs for participants.
h. Returns value of the mission trips to the larger EU community through the use of social media, e-mail, written reports, presentations and information sessions.
i. Develops and updates student mission trip related policies and programs
j. Evaluates and assesses at least annually, enabling continuous improvement.
a. Identifies, arranges/contracts for the Baccalaureate site.
b. Recruits, trains, and manages ushers and other volunteers for the event.
c. Attends the event to manage on site pre and post event logistics.
A Master’s Degree and experience in a ministry related field is preferred. An understanding of Christian Higher Education, college student development and Christian Formation as it relates to the University Mission Statement. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain a student centered approach. Attention to detail and well developed organizational skills. Knowledge of the field of service learning and service learning theory. Experience with and oversight of student ministry/mission trip programs. Ability to conceptualize, implement and continuously improve programs. The ability to supervise and mentor student leaders. The ability to work effectively with a broad range of people within a university community. High comfort level with excel, MS Word and other computer software programs.
