Evaluation of Advisors
Eastern University believes that the regular assessment of services provided to students can help to improve the quality and effectiveness of those services. One important service provided by faculty and staff is the regular advising of students for academic and career purposes. Beginning in Spring 2012, that evaluation process has been moved to an electronic delivery and compilation so that students may complete the evaluations whenever and wherever they wish, via access through the Internet. Following is a description of the process being followed:
1) The form being used is the same form Eastern has used for the INST 150 advisor evaluations in the past. A sample of this form is provided through the link below.
2) Approximately 50% of College of Arts and Sciences students will be asked to complete this form during the Spring semester each year.
3) The Office of Institutional Research has chosen a mix of professors from each department so that there is a balance of approximately 50% of students from each department asked to complete the evaluation each year. Faculty who were on full-year sabbaticals and those retiring at the end of the year are not included in the evaluation process.
4) The same system that Eastern presently uses for the Narrative Teacher Course Evaluations is being used for Advisor Evaluations so faculty and chairs can log in to see the results without our help. However, our office will also be emailing the results to faculty, department chairs, and to the Director of Academic Advising.
5) Evaluations are usually launched by mid-semester each Spring and will be open for two weeks, to be released to faculty, chairs and the Director of Academic Advising within three weeks of the launch.
