Transformation: A Plan for Eastern
Closer to home, America’s urban neighborhoods are often trapped in a spiral of poverty, violence and despair. Yet a transformational Eastern University influenced change by opening a Latino college, an Early College High School and an urban collegiate institute in three of Philadelphia’s most challenged communities.
Eastern’s residential campus in St. Davids is a transformational place where advanced knowledge and spiritual formation are overarching goals in all we do. The Student Center presented in this case statement will be a first step in a focused journey to transform a beautiful old estate into a modern center for higher learning. The Center for Performing Arts and the Science Center to follow will be critical next steps, with the construction of a new Palmer Seminary and Campolo Graduate and Professional Studies campus not far behind. A new Field House and Fitness Center will complete the journey some years out.
Technology, growth and a commitment to excellence demand that we make this historic transformation in St. Davids. Your co-investment in this exceptional University’s work will make a significant difference in our ability to take this journey for the benefit of all of Eastern University’s students.
Sincerely,

Dr. David R. Black
President
