The Class List Service:
The page for "Class list" is shown below.

To display a class list, simply insert the course number (e.g. "csc130") and section number (e.g. "2") and hit submit. The class list for the course you choose for the specified session, year and program will then be printed. If you do not know what classes are being offered, hit the "?" button next to "course number" and you will get a list of all classes being offered for the session, year and program selected below.
If you do not want a comprehensive list of classes but only the classes offered in a specific department, type in just the department code (e.g. "csc") and hit the "?" button. Doing this will get you a list of Computer Science courses offered for the selected term. To choose a course from the menu that will appear, click on the dot next to the desired course and click on one of the select buttons. You will return to the screen shown above with the appropriate course entered into the "Course Number" field. If you know the course section number, just type it in and click on "Submit Request". If you do not know a section number, click on the "?" button next to section and you will get a list of all the sections offered for the Course Number entered above. To Choose a section, click on the dot next to the desired section and click on one of the select buttons.
You must enter both a valid course number and a valid section number to return the appropriate data.
Once the course number field and section number field have values, click on "Submit Request".
Below is what a class list will look like.

Both the student's name and the student's e-mail address are hyperlinks. It you click on the student's name, it will bring up her or his schedule. If you click on the student's e-mail address, it will bring up Eudora (provided it is already open) with the student's address in the "To:" line.
Bulk E-mail Feature:
If you wish to send bulk e-mail to the entire class, simply fill out the form that appears below the class list by entering your name, your e-mail address, and the body of the message you with to send to the class.

Upon clicking on "Submit", your message will be sent to everyone in the class (provided an e-mail address appeared for every student in the class list -- if a student does not have an e-mail address listed for them in the class list, they will not get the message) A copy of the message will be sent to the e-mail address entered into the e-mail field.
Format for Excel Feature:
This feature will allow for a direct download of the classlist information into an Excel spreadsheet. Additional information such as test grades, project grades, attendance etc. could then be added to it for a computerized gradebook. (If you choose to do this, make sure you back up the file to zip or floppy if it is your only working gradebook, and have multiple backups of every change, just to be safe!)
To activate the classlist download into Excel, you must follow these procedures. These instructions are given for use with Netscape Navigator and Excel 6.0 or higher for Windows 95 machines.
Click on the format for Excel button and then click on "Submit Request".
If your browser is unconfigured to accept "application/xls" mime types* as Excel files, then the following screen appears below. Choose Pick App.
*A mime type is simply an Internet setting that tells web browsers what helper applications to launch when they receive a certain file type.
Next it will ask you to choose a program to open when the mime type of a file = "application/xls." Click on the browse button to continue.
Now you will browse through the directories until you come across the shortcut to Microsoft Excel. This is located on the C drive in the program files / msoffice directory (c:\Program Files\msoffice). Since the dialog box will open by default in Netscape's home directory you will need to back out to the top of the directory structure by hitting the down triangle and then using the scroll bar to choose the program files directory under the C drive (which will come into your view as you scroll up.).
Double click on the Microsoft Excel Shortcut to select it and you will get a window that looks like the one below.
Now click on "OK" and you your mime type will be registered with the web browser.
Once you get to this point, you will not have to repeat steps 2,3 and 4 again on your computer. Netscape will remember what you have chosen. From this point on when you select the format for Excel option you will get a window like the one that appears below. Choose "Open it" and hit "OK".
Excel will then launch and proceed to import your classlist into the separate rows and columns as shown below. The only thing left to do is save this file to your local directory with the file / save command -- renaming it to something you will remember (e.g. class1.xls) and then saving a copy to the floppy, zip or other media.
Other Options:
The Show "Grading Type" and "Show Grade" will only appear in the class list if the faculty member logged into the system is the instructor for that course. Grades will only appear after they have been turned into the registrar after the course has been completed. The "Include Registered," Include Withdrawn" and "Include Wait List" are selected by default. If you do not want one of these groups to appear in your class list, simply uncheck them before you hit "Submit."
