How do I create a Faculty / Staff  Personal Page on Daniel Using MS FrontPage  with FrontPage Extensions after receiving my web publishing account?

FrontPage extensions are installed on Eastern's Web server Daniel http://daniel.eastern.edu. This allows all faculty / staff / admin of Eastern University to quickly and efficiently publish their own
personal web site. In order to do this, the user will need to have Microsoft FrontPage 2000/02 installed on their machine. (The Faculty Computer Lab and the McInnis 319 lab have front page extensions loaded.) There are two methods of web publication using Microsoft FrontPage extensions. The first method is to create a "sub web" (which is a Microsoft enhanced folder for frontpage2000/02) offline on the users local computer, then to hit the publish button to transfer your sub web via http to a server equipped with frontpage2000/02 extensions, in this case Beacon. If you have already developed a sub web offline, this would be how you can transfer your pages initially up to the server. If you wish to use this method, do the following. (If you have not started developing your site yet, it is recommended to edit your pages on-line instead of developing them offline and then hitting publish, this way you can work on your pages from any machine with frontpage2000/02 and a connection to the Internet)

 1.  open your existing sub web in FrontPage

 2. hit the publish web button on the toolbar

Front Page

 3.  Type in the following address inserting your own valid EU  username i.e. msmith
http://daniel.eastern.edu./faculty_personal/<username>
then hit publish

Front Page

http://daniel.eastern.edu/faculty_personal/<username>

It will ask you for your password.  Use your EU E-mail password will be activated for use in web publishing to this location after you receive your web publishing account from the computer center.

Front Page

It will then begin to upload your pages and let you know when it is finished

to view your published website, open your web browser and then go to

The second method is creating / editing your pages online directly.   This can be done to
create a new site or new pages as well as edit existing pages that already reside on the server

This can be done as follows

1. to get started, open FrontPage.

2.  go to file / open web

3.  click on the web folders (my network places) button in the left column

4.  click on the create new web folder (do this the first time you go to access your pages on your computer)  this will add your new "sub web" web folder to your list of web folders. (once you create your sub web folder, then simply click on your new folder and hit open to enter your site)

Front Page

 5.  In the window that pops up, type in the following address inserting your own valid EU  username i.e. msmith

 http://daniel.eastern.edu./faculty_personal/<username>

Front Page

It will ask you for your password.  Use your EU E-mail password will be activated for use in web publishing to this location after you receive your web publishing account from the computer center.

6.  hit next, then name your sub web so that you will recognise it in your list of subwebs.

7.  now click on the open button and you will have entered your site.

8.  click on the navigation button to get a list of files in your folder on the server.  click on new page to create  new pages.  when you are finished creating or editing a page just hit the save button for each page you create or edit, and then that page will automatically upload to the server.
