Eastern University, a university of the liberal arts and sciences located in St. Davids, Pennsylvania, invites applications for the position as Academic Coach/Student Persistence Assistant.
Reporting to the Director of the Cushing Center for Counseling and Academic Support (CCAS),¬† the position serves students in the College of Arts and Sciences through direct academic coaching, academic probation improvement plans, the Student Success series, the EQUIP pre-college summer program, and the Act 101 program.¬† The position works with students throughout the University to support their persistence.
Status:¬† Part-time, staff, 20 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.

1.¬†¬†¬† Provides academic coaching to CAS students who are self-referred or referred by faculty or staff for assistance with study skills, time/self-management, test-taking, reading strategies.
2.¬†¬†¬† Markets academic coaching and its benefits to CAS students.
3.¬†¬†¬† Develops improvement plans for CAS students on academic probation and monitors students‚Äô compliance and progress.
4.¬†¬†¬† Serves as Act 101 Counselor for selected students and participates in Act 101 events as requested by the Director.
5.¬†¬†¬† Develops and present workshops, including the Student Success Series, focused on study skills, time management, ‚Äúnegotiating the system‚ÄĚ (e.g., registration, financial aid), etc.,
6.¬†¬†¬† Assists with the EQUIP pre-college summer program administration, management, teaching, and/or peer staff supervision and ongoing student support during the regular academic year as requested by the Director. (Role may vary depending on program needs during a given year.)
7.¬†¬†¬† Attends CCAS staff meetings on a schedule determined by the Director.
8.¬†¬†¬† Maintains case documentation and prepares weekly records of contacts and other summary reports as requested by the Director.
9.¬†¬†¬† Provides outreach to and actively engages students identified to be at risk for leaving the University.
10.¬†¬†¬† Assists students with navigating University systems such as financial aid, registration, and housing processes.
11.¬†¬†¬† Develops and utilizes assessment measures for academic coaching and related services to evaluate program effectiveness, summarizes results, and recommends changes and improvements.

Bachelor‚Äôs degree required, Master‚Äôs degree preferred, with preference for academic work in education, counseling, or related field. Prior experience providing specific types of academic support (e.g., study skills, test-taking strategies, time/self-management, etc.) to undergraduates in a post-secondary setting is strongly preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills and proven ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds are essential. Must be available to work some evenings and weekends and the entire month of July and commit to a consistent schedule in advance of each academic year.
Ability to climb three (3) flights of stairs to access Cushing CCAS Office is required.
