1. Q. I want to use EbscoHost from home! Can I access the Eastern University databases from off campus?
A. You need a MyAthens account. Contact the Reference Desk at Warner Library, reference1777@eastern.edu or call the library at 610-341-1777. Be prepared to provide your Eastern University e-mail address and Eastern ID number.
2. Q. I can't set my browser to access the proxy service, isn't there another way to use the databases from my home?
A. Yes! A limited number of databases, EbscoHost, Facts.com, FirstSearch, Silverplatter, and WilsonWeb, allow access using an assigned username and password. You must contact the Warner Library for this information. Contact the library by email reference1777@eastern.edu or call the library at 610-341-1777 . You must provide Eastern University identification to receive the information.
3. Q. Can I find out which journals are available through the Library?
A. You can see a listing of journal titles by using the Eastern University Journal List link, available throughout the Website. This lists full-text journals available online, as well as journals found in print or on microfiche and microfilm in Warner Memorial Library.
4. Q. What are the operating hours for Eastern University Libraries?
A. The operating hours for Eastern University Libraries varies by the different locales. You can see a listing of hours for each library at the Hours link on the website.
5. Q. Where can I find information on "how to use" or "how to search using" Library databases?
A. Follow the link found on the Libraries' website under "Resources" which reads Guides and Tutorials. Here you will find links to tutorials and other guides for using the Library databases.
6. Q. Is there a list of the databases available through the Library's website?
A. There are several ways to see listings of the databases available through the Library website, 1. You can use the drop-down menu "Library Quick Links" provides a list of the Library research services and quickly connects to the selected service. 2. The "Databases" link found on the bar near the top of Library website leads information and links to the various databases. 3. Under the "Libguides" link from the website. Databases and other indexes are listed according to their subject matter.
7. Q. How do I find books, videos, and other items available at the Eastern University Libraries?
A. For the St. Davids and Philadelphia libraries follow the link under "Online Catalogs" to "Eastern University's WebCat" located the website. Palmer Seminary patrons should follow the Austen K. deBlois Library, Palmer Seminary link to search the seminary's catalog. Eastern University, also, has a collection of electronic books, eBrary a collection of over 20,000 ebooks, and NetLibrary a collection of about 10,000 ebooks.
8. Q. How long do books and other items circulate?
A. This varies by Library. Check the links under "About Eastern University Libraries" found throughout the Libraries' website.
9. Q. Do overdue items accrue fines?
A. There are no fines for overdue materials for the Helen Craymer Curriculum Lab. Warner Memorial Library will fine patrons with overdue materials. Check the information under "Circulation" found on the Library website to see the policy.
10. Q. I'm writing a paper for a history class, how do I cite articles I find in the full-text databases?
A. You will want to consult the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, which is found in the Reference Collection (Call No. LB2369 .G53). This is the standard for arts and humanities papers. It provides information on the way to cite electronic resources in your paper. Some professors may prefer another style. If you are uncertain about which style to use, check with your professor.
If you write a paper in the any of the sciences you will want to consult the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (Call No.BF76.7 .P83). It is the standard for physical, theoretical and social sciences. There is also information about Style Guides found by following the Reference link on the bar near the top of Library website.
