Accessing Eastern University's Proxy Server with Internet Explorer


1. From the IE toolbar click on the Tools menu and select Internet Options

2. Choose the Connections tab.

3. Two options appear choose the appropriate one for your service provider.


a. Dial-up Modem Users:
In the Dial-up settings box, find the icon with the name of your dial-up service. (In this example we have NetZero as the internet service provider (ISP).) Click on the icon once to highlight it,  then choose the Settings button.
OR

             b. DSL or Cable Modem Users:

In the Local Area Network (LAN) settings box choose the LAN Settings button.

4. Check the box next to: "Automatically detect settings" and "Use automatic configuration script" in either the Dial-up or DSL, Cable Modem settings.

Type the following into the "Address" field:

http://www.eastern.edu/cache.pac

In the "Proxy server" section, verify that the 'Use a proxy server' check box is UNCHECKED

NOTE: It is best to uncheck the options when not using the proxy service. If left checked the browser will ask for your authentication every time the browser is used.

Click on OKto close the Dial-up settings (or LAN Settings) window, and then again on OKto close the Internet Optionswindow.

Exit Internet Explorer and restart it for the changes to take effect. 

When you reopen your browser, a dialog box will come up asking for your login and password. Use your email login and password. This will happen every time you open the browser, regardless of whether you are accessing anexternal database or not.
