St. Davids, PA, March 20, 2008: A letter to the community from Eastern University President David Black:
On behalf of Eastern University, I am delighted to invite you, your friends and family to an important event on Thursday, April 17, 2008. Join us in welcoming the Honorable Rick Santorum, former Republican U.S. Senator for Pennsylvania, who will speak at our Templeton Honors College sponsored series, Conversations that Matter. This event will take place on Eastern's St. Davids campus in the gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
Last fall we invited Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, to speak on the Democratic Party and faith. As a bookend to the faith and politics issue, we have invited a different perspective from the Honorable Rick Santorum.
The former Senator will be speaking on America's future. He is a long-time friend of Eastern whose commitment to families and his country have proven important in society. He is the author of "It Takes a Family: Conservatism and the Common Good" and founder of The America's Enemies Project at the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington, D.C.
This is a unique opportunity to think and talk about faith and the role it plays in the American political system. After speaking, Rick Santorum will answer questions and engage the audience in a dialogue. Our Provost, Dr. Christopher Hall, will moderate the discussion, which is open to the public at no charge. A reception will follow.
Please call the President's Office at 610.341.5890 or e-mail president@eastern.edu if you plan to attend. We hope you will join us for this conversation on the evening of April 17.
