FIELD HOCKEY TEAM EARNS ACADEMIC HONOR

St. Davids, PA, March 24, 2008: The Eastern University Field Hockey Team took the No. 3 spot on the 2007 ZAG/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad for the third consecutive year on March 12, 2008.  The National Field Hockey Coaches Association releases this annual list to honor teams with a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher.

While 80 teams met the criteria for the award, the organization gives special recognition to only five teams with the top GPA's nationally. The Eagles finished at No. 3 with a 3.46 team GPA, behind Springfield College’s 3.69 and Vassar’s 3.58.
For the 2007 PAC Finalists, the honor is something that both the players and Head Coach Camrin Azzarano take very seriously.  The consistency of the program's performance is a testament to the structure of the program, and its focus on both athletic and academic achievement.
“When we calculated the GPA, we thought that we might have a chance to make the top spot again,” Azzarano said.  “We were excited about the possibility of being first, but to be in that top group of five for three straight years is a tremendous feat for our program.”
In addition to their team award, the Eagles had thirteen players on the National Academic honor list (Kim Campbell, Hope Donnelly, Kelly Garland, Lisa Gocht, Jaimie Heck, Ellen Hivner, Carrie Kline, Christy McCoy, Leslie Messick, Lindsay Moyer, Stephanie Moyer, Elya Troup and Olivia Wilson).

Eastern finished their season with a 15-6 overall record and a third straight appearance in the PAC Championship Game.
