STUDENT BRUBAKER NAMED ISI HONORS FELLOW
Brubaker, a 20-year-old Templeton Honors College student, is a math and philosophy double major with a minor in astronomy. As an ISI Honors Fellow, he will attend a conference in Colonial Williamsburg, VA, from July 23-July 29. During the conference, Brubaker will be discussing readings and lectures with other ISI Fellows and renowned professors from around the world.
In addition, Brubaker will be assigned an Academic Mentor who will guide him through reading projects and advise him on intellectual questions and career options. ISI Fellows receive an array of ISI publications, including American Conservatism: An Encyclopedia and Modern Age, and are notified of employment, fellowship and internship opportunities.
On campus, Brubaker holds a leadership role on Eastern's Ultimate Frisbee team, and is a member of Ethel's Swing Dance Club. Brubaker plays the bass guitar for Eastern's Chapel Worship Team and travels to a soup kitchen in Norristown on Saturdays to give back to the community.
"When I first applied to be an ISI Honors Fellow, I really thought it was a long shot," Brubaker said. "I am so glad I was chosen. I'm excited to meet some new people, make some new friends and learn about the ISI Honors Fellowship program. It's a great excuse to read some good books over the summer and expand my horizons. I'm really excited to be stretched by being put into an environment that is going to challenge me in a number of ways. It is an honor to have this opportunity to represent Eastern in the academic community."
ISI is a nonprofit, non-partisan, tax-exempt educational organization whose purpose is to further in successive generations of college youth a better understanding of the values and institutions that sustain a free and humane society. ISI works "to educate for liberty" - to identify the best and the brightest college students and to nurture in these future leaders the American ideal of ordered liberty. To accomplish this goal, ISI seeks to enhance the rising generation's knowledge of our nation's founding principles - limited government, individual liberty, personal responsibility, the rule of law, market economy, and moral norms.
