ATHLETES O’DONNELL AND CAMPBELL EARN HONORS
St. Davids, PA, July 3, 2008: Eastern University senior men’s lacrosse (http://www.goeasterneagles.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogsection&id=19&Itemid=19) player Ben O'Donnell and junior women’s lacrosse (http://www.goeasterneagles.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogsection&id=20&Itemid=20) player Kim Campbell both earned honors for their excellence in the classroom and on the field.
O'Donnell, the Eagles' leading goal scorer for the past two seasons, was among 10 athletes from the 28 colleges and universities in the Philadelphia area selected to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team on May 30, 2008.
O'Donnell, who amassed 34 goals in just 15 games, is a biokinetics major from Syracuse, NY with a 3.65 GPA. In his two years in the maroon and white, O'Donnell has scored 62 times. In addition to leading the team in goals, O'Donnell also tallied a team-high 67 ground balls. He earned 1st Team All-PAC honors this year. In addition to his work in the classroom and on the field, O'Donnell earned All-Conference honors in Cross Country as well.
O'Donnell, who has eligibility remaining, could return next spring as a graduate student. He is the first Eastern Men's Lacrosse player to be recognized on the Academic All-Area list.
Campbell was also recognized on May 30 by Philadelphia’s Sports Information Director's Association (Philly SIDA) as an Academic All-Area Performer. The honor, which is sponsored by the Philadelphia Inquirer, recognizes outstanding athletes who excel in the classroom from the 28 area colleges and universities.
Campbell led the conference and was ranked nationally in goals against average and save percentage, and she earned 2nd Team All-Region Recognition. A transfer from Long Island University, the Malvern native earned All-Conference recognition as a field hockey forward in the fall. Campbell made her presence felt in key moments in the playoffs. She made 18 saves in the Championship game as the Eagles held Cabrini College to a single second half goal in a come-from-behind 13-8 win.
Campbell is an elementary education major (http://eastern.edu/academic/cas/depts/education/index.html) with 3.8 GPA. She is the third Eastern women's lacrosse player to be recognized with the award.
