EASTERN ATHLETES EARN PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER’S ‘SEASON HONORS’

St. Davids, PA, June 13, 2008:  Eastern University student-athletes Ben O’Donnell, Davis Murray, Linnea Davis and Grace Griffith were recognized by the Philadelphia Inquirer for their academic and athletic achievements.  The four Eagles were highlighted in the Inquirer’s June 12, 2008 list of “Local College Season Honors”.Ben O'Donnell

Eastern University Men's Lacrosse team enjoyed their finest season in PAC Competition in 2008. The Eagles finished the regular season with a 7-1 mark and earned a home playoff game for the first time in program history. O’Donnell, an integral part in this success, was named to the Men's Lacrosse All-PAC Team for 2008.  O'Donnell was the only Eagle recognized on the first team. The senior midfielder led the Eagles with 34 goals in fifteen games. O'Donnell also collected a team-high 67 ground balls. Also a PAC men's lacrosse player of the week, O’Donnell was selected as the Quintel Wireless-Eastern University Athlete of the Week on April 13th, 2008.  He is the first men's lacrosse player to earn the Quintel award. The Syracuse, NY native is also an All-PAC Cross Country runner for the Eagles.

“Ben has invigorated the team with his emotion, and approach to the game,” Head Coach John Levis said.  “He has the ability to make quick decisions and see the entire field will provide a lot of highlights for the offensive end.”

Grace GriffinThe three-time defending champion Women’s Lacrosse team was fueled by Griffith, a young powerhouse, who led the Eagles with 50 goals in her first collegiate season. Griffith, the only first year player to earn first team All-PAC honors, led the Eagles with 24 assists. The first year student from Amherst, Massachusetts was also selected as the Quintel Wireless-Eastern University Athlete of the Week on April 6th, 2008.  Griffith is the first women's lacrosse player to win the award. 

Linnea DavisJunior defender Davis joined Griffith on the First Team All-PAC. Davis made her mark as a primary organizer for the Eastern University defense. The Eagles allowed a league-best 7.9 goals per game. A deep defender, Davis was fourth on the team in ground balls and second in caused turnovers. The Eagles allowed just 5.7 goals in league play.

David MurrayThe Eastern University Baseball team set a new mark for league wins this year with an 8-10 mark. Murray, a senior shortstop from Connecticut, was named to the Men's Baseball All-PAC First Team for 2008.  Murray led the Eagles with a .393 batting average, 36 RBI, 13 doubles, and 46 hits. Murray was steady in the field with a .913 fielding percentage while starting each of the Eagles' 33 games.
