EU DANCE STUDENTS AND FACULTY FEATURED AT REGIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL

St. Davids, PA, April 3, 2009:  Dr. Karen Clemente, Dr. Joselli Deans, and dance faculty members Janine Bryant and Saleana Pettaway and 16 students from the Eastern University Dance Program participated in the Northeast Regional Festival of the American College Dance Festival Association (ACDFA) at Penn State University over spring break in March.

Eastern's faculty taught master classes, and students attended classes, panel discussions, and dance concerts. Dr. Karen Clemente, professor of dance, reports that her dance, Full Woman, co-choreographed by guest artists Lisa Lovelace and MeLinda Tatum Kaiser, was adjudicated and selected from 48 entries to be one of 11 dances performed at the closing Gala Concert. Eastern students who performed in Full Woman at ACDFA are: Kelsey Brennan, Jessica Bryan, Kristen Davies, Kristin Gianoukas, Natalie Landis, Heather Mahurin and Sarah Umbenhauer.

This selection gave Eastern's dance program a visible presence among other high-quality dance programs in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Eastern University offers the dance major (B.A.) and dance minor (combined with a major of the student's choice). Entrance into the dance program is by audition.

Eastern's Dance faculty are dance professionals whose expertise includes education, performance, choreography, community based arts, and studio work. The course work and community environment in the dance program engage the individual on physical, intellectual, social, and emotional levels anchored in Christian spirituality-shaping a dance professional.

Recent dance graduates are working in the areas of:

Dance Education:  Public and Private Schools, Studios and Community Centers
Dance/Arts Ministry
Dance Therapy and Physical Therapy
Dance Performance and Choreography
Dance Administration, Management and Marketing
Recent graduates also are pursuing graduate studies in dance education, dance therapy, and dance administration.
