DR. MARY ANNE PETERS NAMED NURSING CHAIR
St. Davids, PA, September 18, 2008: Eastern University is proud to welcome Mary Anne Peters, Ph.D., RN, CNE as the new chair and associate professor of the Department of Nursing. She brings expertise in nursing education and parent-child nursing with a Ph.D. from Widener University, MSN from the University of Pennsylvania, and a BSN from the Pennsylvania State University.
Dr. Peters is not new to the Eastern community. She served as an assistant professor, associate professor, and nursing curriculum and outcomes coordinator at Eastern University from 1992-2003. She was awarded the 1999 Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to return to Eastern University at this time,” Dr. Peters said. “The Department of Nursing is poised to change and grow and it will be an exciting journey.”
Dr. Peters served as an associate professor and the director of Graduate Nursing Programs at LaSalle University from 2003-2008. She has also served in various nursing roles such as nurse manager, staff development coordinator, and clinician throughout her extensive career in the health care field.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Peters has recently done research in many areas including: acute myocardial infarction in urban African-Americans, the knowledge and skill of adjunct faculty teaching baccalaureate nursing students, and adult student satisfaction in traditional part-time study versus accelerated modularized study in an RN to BSN program.
Dr. Peters is a 2008-2009 Leadership in Academic Nursing Program Fellow and also serves as a site visitor for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education Accreditation. She is a member of numerous professional organizations including Sigma Theta Tau International, American Nurses’ Association, National League for Nurses, and the Society of Pediatric Nurses.
