EU INAUGURATION DAY CELEBRATION JAN. 20
ALL DAY EVENT AT THE EASTERN UNIVERSITY ST. DAVIDS CAMPUS
St. Davids, PA, January 12, 2009: On January 20 the Office of Student Development, the Office of the Provost and the Office of the Undergraduate Dean will sponsor an All Day Inaugural Day Celebration on Eastern University's St. Davids campus in the Jammin' Java lounge of Walton Hall from 8AM to Midnight. Come by, meet friends, have a complimentary cup of hot chocolate, watch the day's events on CNN as a community, and discuss this most significant 21st century event.
"This inauguration culminates the past two years of tireless campaigning and commences the next four years of tireless work to be done to restore our nation to greatness," Justin Tomevi, Student Government Association President, said. "January 20 will be the day that America comes together to celebrate the journey taken and anticipate the journey to come. The Eastern community would be remiss not to be involved with this monumental event."
There will be a big screen TV set up in Walton Hall to broadcast the event. There will also be interesting, festive and educational information posted to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. which is celebrated on Jan. 19. Additionally, we will provide information about Abraham Lincoln, since it is the 2009 bicentennial celebration of Lincoln's birth. On your way in or out, spend a few minutes in the Walton Prayer Chapel praying for this new president, his cabinet, this country and the world.
"Another kind of diversity will be present on the 20th of January," Bettie Ann Brigham, Vice President for Student Development, said. "This Inauguration Day carries with it the most ‘emotional diversity' of any yet. Hope, fear, anxiety, joy, uncertainty, all these feelings are engaging the entire planet these days. The world comes together on this Inauguration Day in a way that it has not yet done. Anxiety concerning what it will take to ‘put things back together' is palpable yet hope abounds. Courage is an outgrowth of great faith. Our new president will lead the country with both."
Eastern University is deeply committed to "student development" as an essential element of our educational mission as a Christian liberal arts college. While our academic program develops the ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and speaking to think analytically, critically and independently, our Student Development Program is designed to challenge and support students in their intellectual, physical, interpersonal, and spiritual development.
